CALIFORNIA'S POV

I was putting my hair into a messy bun in my cell when I heard someone in the door frame. I turned around and there was Carl, looking cute(as always.) It was only last night that we became a couple.
"Hey," he said nervously.
"Oh, hey," I smiled.
He shifted awkwardly and blushed.
I sighed and smirked. "You don't have to act so awkward around me anymore, Carl!" I said giggling. "We're a couple."
"Oh, uh. Right. I was just- uh.. Yea."
"You're so cute," I said, walking out of my room and he trailed behind me.
"So when are we gonna tell them?"
"Soon." I turned around a smiled warmly.

CARL'S POV

We walked outside and she paused.
"What are our chores for today?" She asked.
"My dad said that today is our break," I responded. "We can just hang out."
Cali pumped her fist into the air and whooped.
We began to just take a walk around the field, watching everyone do their job and stopping occasionally to chat with people.
At one point, she was running ahead of me, saying, "I betcha can't catch me!"
I chuckled and started to run after her.
"Oh, you bet I will," I snorted.
We frolicked around until California zoomed past a mud puddle and slipped, falling on her butt.
The sight of her covered in mud and her shocked face struck something in me. I began laughing so hard I could barely breath. I kneeled down clutching my stomach.
"Are you okay?" I said through tears, chuckling.
"Carl!" She whined. "Help me up!"
"Oh wait, hold on. I wish I had a camera," I continued to wheeze.
Suddenly a cold substance splattered onto my chest. I looked up and Cali was standing up with a fistful of mud, smirking.
"Hey Carl, how about a hug?" She started to run at me, laughing, her arms spread out wide, dripping with mud.
"No! No!" I dodged her attempt to embrace me and ran to the puddle. I scooped up a handful if mud and threw it at California.
She shrieked when it hit her, then looked up at me with a mischievous smile plastered across her face.
"Oh." She smirked. "It's on."

CALIFORNIA'S POV

I flung some mud at Carl, receiving a snort of laughter from him. He began to try to smear mud in my face, but I ducked down to avoid the blow.
He missed getting me and fell face first into the puddle of mud.
While he recovered from the fall, I snuck up behind him with a glob of mud in my hand. He looked around trying to locate me.
"Cali? California?" He looked around.
Before he could see me, I dropped the glob of mud into his hair. Luckily, he had left his sheriff hat inside. I smeared the stuff all over him laughing.
"Agh! Aw, man! My hair!" He fumbled around his head trying to wipe it off.
"Oh, you're gonna get it now!" He turned around and did the same to my hair. I shrieked.
"You can't do that with a girl's hair! It's against the law!" I wiped my face, smear mud over it.
We had a mud fight for a while, laughing our butts off.
Finally when both of us where exhausted and completely covered in mud, we bent over laughing.
"We're complete idiots," I said with tears in my eyes.
"I know," Carl said and came over to me.
"But you're a cute idiot," He tipped my chin up and kissed my nose.
I turned the color of a tomato.
"God, you're beautiful. Even when you're red and covered in mud."
"Awwww," I heard from nearby.
We both spun around to find the whole group watching us.
"Guys!" Carl whined.
Rick chuckled and was grinning from ear to ear.
"So... You guys are dating?" He smirked.
"I new it!" Beth exclaimed and turned to Daryl.
"You owe me five bucks."
Daryl rolled his eyes. "Like that's gonna get you anything."
Hershel looked amused. "Ah, young love," he marveled at us.
Carl and I both turned pink as the group laughed.
"So much for telling them," he said to me.
I chuckled and nestled my face into his shoulder, receiving another, "Awww," from everyone one and Daryl saying, "Get some, Carl!"
We all cracked up and eventually the group dissipated and left to take their original posts.
Mr. Grimes stayed behind.
"So?" Carl said hopefully.
"Duh, it's fine," he chuckled. "I know Cali's a good girl, right Cali?" He patted me on the shoulder.
I grinned.
Carl let out a sigh of relief. "Good."
"Oh, and only I can call her Cali!" Carl called, receiving another laugh from his father.
"Of course, son," he said and walked away.
"Well." I said, looking up at Carl. "They know,"
"Good," he said. "Now I can do this in public." He kissed me softly on the lips. I smiled against his mouth and put my hands around his neck.
"I missed you so much when I moved in first grade. I had a huge crush on you in first grade," I admitted.
"Really? I was practically in love with you, too."
"I never said I was in love with you," I smirked.
"Yea, but you were thinking it,"
I blushed and hesitated.
"...True."
