Chapter 14: Peeta' story

I regret telling her. She's too young. Way too young. I start pacing the room. " Julianna how about you go downstairs. Daddy will be down in a minute. Peeta she's too young. Why did i have to tell her i should have waited. PEETA WHAT DID I DO!?" i say starting to cry. "Katniss. She's fine. She's still our perfect little girl." he says wrapping his arms around me. "Yeah. Your right." i say smiling. Peeta wipes my tears and we head downstairs. "What do want for breakfast?" I ask. "PANCAKES!" she says with a smile. "You heard the girl make us pancakes." i say smiling at Peeta. "Okay." he says walking to the kitchen. "How about after we eat we take uncle Haymitch some pancakes and go for a walk." suggests Peeta. "Okay." replies Julianna. We eat and make Haymitch a plate. Peeta grabs my hand and we all walk out the door. We get to his house and knock on the door. He doesn't answer so we walk in. We can't find him. "I have an idea." I say . "Oh no you have an idea this can't be good." says Peeta. I tell them my idea and Peeta cautiously agrees. I start screaming for Peeta to stop and so does Julianna. "NO DADDY PLEASE STOP!" scream Julianna. I guess us pretending triggers a flashback for Peeta. His hands wrap around my neck and they keep tightening anf he adds more pressure. "Daddy? DADDY STOP! YOUR HURTING HER!" she screams. Haymitch suddenly runs in to find me on the floor with Peeta on top chocking me with a frightened Julianna watching. "Julianna come with Uncle Haymitch." he says picking her up and taking her away. He soon returns and wrestles Peeta off of me. Air floods back into my lungs. "SHE'S A MUTT! A STINKING MUTT!" he just screams it over and over. I run and find Julianna. I sit with her and tell her everythings okay. After 15 minutes the screaming stops and someone walks in. I jump in front of Julianna to protect her. "Katniss I'm sorry." he says crying. "It's okay, Peeta I know you can't control it." I say walking closer and hugging him tight. "Julianna." Peeta says with sad eyes. "Daddy why did you do that to mommy?" she asks through the tears. "How about that walk and we can explain then." he says drying her tears. "Okay." she says running to the living room. We walk in and she grabs Peeta's hand then Haymitch's hand. "Come on Uncle Haymitch." she says pulling him out the door. I laugh and follow. We walk through the meadow and Peeta starts explaining. " Do you remember how mommy told you about us being in the games?" Peeta asks. " Hold on. You bozos told her about the games?" Haymitch asks. I pull him aside. " Look. We didn't plan on it. Me and Peeta were talking this morning and she overheard me talking about Prim and all the innocent people i killed and how many were dead because of me." i say. Haymitch looks me in the eyes like he did when he was my mentor. He still is in a way. Preparing me for whats ahead. We walk back to Peeta and Julianna. "After our second games when the capitol took me. They took all my good memories of mommy and made them bad. They made me think mommy was bad and made me think i wanted to kill her. I haven't gotten full control but this is the first one since you were born. When the bad memoris come back to me that happens. I never want to hurt you or mommy." he says holding back tears. " I love both of you so much." he says as i wipe his tears. " i love you too daddy." says Julianna
