JADE
I let Perrie drive me towards my house and for the first time ever since the fall out with Jesy, I felt genuinely happy. Her saving me from that guy made me like her even so. It felt like I had a savior once again. But then, my mind tells me I couldn't just let this comfort take me and replace where Jesy stands in my life. Besides, I fear that if I let her be my savior, it would be another tough time mending if something happens between us. I did almost slip when I revealed that I was not into men, so I had to reveal even more by saying I don’t like any relationships. It’s not that I am stone cold and do not yearn for love at all. It is just that I fear that I would build and break.
“Are we home?” I heard Ellie groggily ask from the backseat.
Perrie chuckled, and I swear that the mere sound of her voice and her chuckle makes my heart skip a beat.
“No baby. Not yet. But we’re driving Teacher to hers.”I suddenly remembered that Jes might not like it if I brought someone over. Or maybe sees me with someone.
“Actually,” I said to Perrie, “You can drop me off at the convenience store by the bend. I have to buy some stuff.”
Perrie looked at me, her eyes seemed to bore through my skull, but there is this feeling I could not explain whenever she looks at me.
“You sure you’ll be safe from here on?”
I smiled, one for thanking her for her concern and one in amusement.
“Of course. I’ve been walking around here ever since I started at the school.”
She slowed the car down right by the entrance to the store, eventually stopping.
“So, thanks for tonight again.” I said, as I opened the door and started to climb out.
“Teacher!” Ellie raised her hands from the backseat.
“Can I hug you before you go?”
I went back in the car to give her a hug and not knowing whatever spirit came over me, I also gave Perrie a hug. Good thing I was quick to take it back and not dwell in her warmth.
“Thanks for tonight, Jade.” She called as I closed the door, before turning my back to them and going my way into the store.
After checking out the stuff I bought, I went on my way towards our house. It is quite dark tonight and I swore I could feel someone following me. I quickened my walking pace until I reached the house, quickly unlocking the door and getting in.
“Jes, I’m home!” I called. I heard no response. Not a little movement from her room.
“Jes!” I repeated. Then, I heard a window shutting. It relieved me.
I went on to bring her her daily sandwich and sat by her door, like usual. Talking to her.
Before I could even utter a word, I noticed the note by the doorstep. And I swore my blood froze.
“You’re getting happy now, aren’t you?"
“She's my student's parent. That is all” I somehow lied.
“I hear her tap the door loudly. She usually does that to tell me to leave. If I did not, she would keep tapping until I do.
I sighed. I pulled myself up and walked to my room, rolling in my head if I should say goodnight, but deciding not to and quietly shutting my door as I whispered it instead
