If it hadn't been for the startled yelps and cries of people and Pokémon, I would have guessed I'd blacked out. The room was pitch black, and even as I looked around, my eyes refused to adjust. I squeezed Lillie's hand, mostly to make sure she was actually there, and she squeezed back.

The sanctuary was chaos. I heard the confused voices of people and the sounds of Pokémon crying out. Lusamine's voice called over the rest. "Everybody calm down!"

People quieted a bit to allow her to speak. I heard her take a deep breath. "Do any Pokémon here know Flash?"

Before anyone could reply, a distinct cry came from the elevator shaft, and a sparkling pink light filled the room. I shielded my eyes from the sudden light as others looked in awe at the sparkles suspended midair. Tapu Fini landed next to me, flipping her hair. The employees worked at calming down the Pokémon, and Gladion followed Lusamine over to us.

"What happened?!" I asked Tapu Fini. She chirped and started to act out a battle.

Gladion furrowed his brow. "A Pokémon caused this?"

"Seems like it..." Lusamine said. "Safe to assume one we've never encountered before. But where did it come from? Ultra space?"

I nodded. "I got a call from the detective agency last night. That's probably what came through the wormhole over Poni Island." I gritted my teeth, looking in the direction of Poni Island, but only seeing pitch black past the Dazzling Gleam Tapu Fini had used. I looked in the Poni guardian's direction. "Did you beat it?"

She shook her head.

I let go of Lillie's hand, shoving my hand into my bag for my ride pager and beckoning Tapu Fini over to the elevator shaft.

"Sun! Where are you going?!" Lillie asked, running after me and grabbing my hand.

I looked back at her, my expression serious. "There's an entire town of people right next to whatever Pokémon caused all this. I need to go help evacuate them."

"By yourself?! You won't even be able to see what you're doing out there!" Lillie exclaimed, tightening her grip.

"Lillie," I said, the edge in my voice a bit too sharp. Lillie flinched from my tone, letting go of my hand. I ran a hand through my hair. "Sorry. That was uncalled for. But my point still stands. I'm the champion, and I have a job to do." I formed my left hand into a fist, the Tapu Z-crystal sparkling brilliant. "The other Tapus are on their way. I won't be alone. Just..." I turned my head over to her mother. "All of you will be safe here, right?"

Lusamine nodded. "This facility is the safest place in the entire region."

I looked directly at Lillie. "I want you to stay here, ok?"

Lillie eyes widened in shock. "I'm not  letting you get yourself killed out there!"

The distress in her voice tore a hole in my soul. "Listen, we don't have time-"

I was interrupted by an ear piercing screech in the blackness. Everyone was silent for a tense moment before the one of the windows shattered, a massive black form barreling in. The floor cracked underneath it as it landed before floating up and hovering in place, stretching out its form. It looked like a mass of black crystal, with thin arms holding massive black hands. Spines covered its body and legs, all black. The only color on it was in its face, with dots of differing colors around where it's mouth should have been, and its similarly colored eyes. Lusamine and Gladion started to guide the employees to the elevator. In a second, I had thrown out Decidueye, who twitched a bit, clearly unnerved by the mass of crystal.

I didn't take my eyes of the creature. "Lillie, help Gladion and Lusamine. I'll try to hold it off."

"Sun-"
