"Y-you what?"
"We found your mom." Aunt Becky said again.
A million thoughts and questions went into my head. I didn't even know where to start.
"Where??"
Aunt Becky shifted a little in her chair, as if she was hiding something. "She wants you back..."
I blinked. "That didn't answer my question..."
Aunt Becky put a comforting hand on me. "Don't you want to see her??"
I didn't answer. I didn't really know if I actually wanted to see my real mother. I really didn't.
I flopped backwards onto my bed, just staring at the ceiling.
What was I gonna do?? I finally had a chance to see my mom...
I suddenly remembered the Riley and Lucas incident from earlier.
I grabbed on my boots and jacket and went down the stairs.
"I'm going on a walk to think..." I said.
Aunt Becky usually would scold at me but not today. "Be back soon."
I went into the cold air and walked, kicking at some rocks on the sidewalk.
I finally reached where I needed to be and looked up at it.
I took a deep breath and climbed up the steps.
Once I finally reached the top, I dangled my feet over the edge, just enjoying the view of the woods.
It was the spot Lucas took me on the last day of our challenge. I guess I am kinda attached to it now.
I leaned against the wood of the treehouse.
Suddenly, I heard noises coming up the stairs.
"So I guess this is your hide out too now." The voice said.
I chuckled. "Hey Lucas."
He made his way up the stairs and sat by me. "what are you thinking??"
I shrugged, playing with my fingers.
"Oh yeah??"
I looked at Lucas curiously.
"You have that look on your face when you are deep in thought..." He chuckled but kept talking. "But it is adorable."
I felt my cheeks flush, which means I was blushing. I looked down.
"I don't really want to talk about it... I mean it's not important."
"Why??"
"It's just not..."
"Maya please tell me." Lucas said, not budging.
I started to get a little annoyed, standing up. "Lucas I said it's not important now leave me alone!!"
"But what is it about???"
"My dad! My dad okay! He died 10 years ago. Happy?" I started to walk away.
"My dad passed away too."
His words took me by surprise. I turned around. "What??"
He stood up beside me, looking down. "My dad passed away last year."
No wonder I had only seen his mom and not his dad....
"I guess that's why I became a bitch of the school." He said.
I didn't say anything but I gave him a sympathic look.
"Until I met you." He said quietly, but gave me a small smile.
I sat back down and leaned my head on Lucas's shoulder.
"I understand how you feel." I said.
