Raz's arm was on fire.

He peered down at the arm resting on his lap. It looked cleaner now. Raz had managed to clean away the dried blood caked around his arm and threw the jacket he wore outside. The hole was now half healed with wine coloured scab. It would take an hour before it healed properly.

It could have healed in minutes if he had not depleted his energy.

He hoped before Selene could notice it. She would use that against him.

He wanted to go back to thinking about her as 'The Siren' but once you took a bullet for someone, it was hard not to get personal. Even though a bullet wouldn't kill him and would definitely kill her.

He gazed at the siren who lay fast asleep next to him with the corner of his eye. For someone who didn't trust him to not kill her, she sure slept like the dead. Her mouth was slightly open and her eyebrows were furrowed in concentration, like a child.

He wished he could have slept so contently but even without the sharp pain in his arm, there was the matter of the snipers to worry about.

That was unexpected.

The moment Selene had left in that pickup van, he approximately knew her location. Once a redeemer made eye contact with someone, they would have an imprint of that person's energy. You could follow that energy like you could a far away light.

But after Raz had managed to knock the human out, leaving him with no permanent injuries, he found Selene's energy was different. He could track it as if a string was attached from her to him.

Must be a siren thing.

Just like the apoplexy you had when she touched you!

Raz was not completely immune to her as he had been made to think.

He followed her on foot for a while before he reached anyplace with a car to nick. But since by that time he sensed her make a stop for an hour or two, Raz had decided to stock up on some things before he picked her up. Energy bars. Some enchanted charms. A few weapons. The essentials.

With his items safely secured in a backpack, he followed her into the carpark thinking of the best form of attack. Until he felt a figure above. He did not expect to see someone, not a redeemer, aiming a gun down at the parking.

Who was that? He didn't dare leave Selene alone to find out. That instinct turned out to be right.

Raz tried to think about who would want her dead. She was a nuisance but not that much of one. Although immortals didn't really care too much about the ratio between crime and punishment, the one seated next to him included.

This was a planned attack for certain. Someone had to have a serious vendetta.

If only he had wings...

Lost in his thoughts, Raz didn't see the petrol station until it was almost too late to turn into it. He made a sharp turn into the driveway causing Selene to wake with a start.

"Where are we?" Selene asked.

Raz positioned the car in front of the petrol tank before answering, "Away from the city."

Selene rolled her eyes, "Yes, but how far away."

Raz turned off the ignition, "Get out."

"What?"

He placed one hand on the door, "I don't trust you here alone not to do something dumb. So get out with me."

Thankfully Selene got out without trouble.
