Raz spoke slowly, meandering his way through a fog of explanations that set Selene's skin gnawing on her bones. Saying something about how he only wants to protect her. Everything he did he did to help.

"Get to the point," she snapped finally.

He looked into her eyes as he said, "I was approached by Theron."

"Wait," Kali interrupted as she turned on the lights. "It was getting creepy. Go on."

Selene would have gasped but the sound died, petrified in her throat. She was glad for that interruption because it had stopped her from saying something that might have revealed too much.

"You were approached. How did he know you were alive?" Kali asked casually.

Raz had to know they lied about the poison.

"Redeemers always check."

Something about that wasn't right...

"He asked me to bring Selene to Castle Elysium," Raz continued. "He wanted to know about the plan. That's why he was there outside the bowling alley."

"I knew it." Selene pointed a shaky finger at Raz, her voice turning into an ugly snarl. "You were scheming with him to trap us!"

"No!" Raz said quickly. "I fed him wrong details of the plan! I'm on your side here!"

On her side? Nobody was on her side. Selene could barely wrap her mind around the strength of his audacity.

They always wrapped their selfish acts, presenting it as if it were actually for her benefit. As if she was that stupid anymore.

"Then if you were helping us, why"-Kali twirled the bottle of scotch in her hand-"didn't you tell us about this?"

Raz turned his head away. "I thought you wouldn't trust me if I said Theron spoke to me."

"Hmm."

Selene had to grab onto the backrest of the couch, the closest solid thing, to keep her body from visibly shaking. She thought she had enough rage for a lifetime but again she was wrong. Here it was, back again like her only companion.

A voice inside her wanted to end him for his deceit.

You don't even have to do it, the voice said. Kali could take care of it for you. You wouldn't even need to say it outright. A little hint might do. One word of encouragement.

Her blood boiled more, rolling in waves of heat when she realised there wasn't even the slightest, not even a speckle of desire that wanted to do that.

"Damn right, I wouldn't trust you!" Selene pointed a finger at Kali. "I blame you for this."

"Me?"

"Yes you! Why would you ever count on a Redeemer to launch an attack against another Redeemer? That was the stupidest plan ever!" Selene said, her voice raising ever higher.

"You agreed to it! Sometimes, Selene, you just have to do the unexpected. This time it didn't pay off... I guess we should kill him now." Kali shrugged.

Before Selene could even form a thought, her lips already made out the word, "No!"

Kali smiled thinly. "Great, so if we can't kill him then we have to use him."

"Are you insane? Theron knows everything! Why would you trust him again," Selene yelled, barely restraining the pressure in her chest that wanted to throttle someone. Kali wasn't very surprised by this. It made Selene feel slightly ill.
