Theron turned to him, with widened eyes. "Did you try and get her to tell you?"
Raz stared at him in defiance. "You know I'd guard it with my life."
"That's not the point. Why. Did. You Try."
"I have a right to know. Her life could be in danger knowing what she knows."
"Well, let me solve that problem for you. You know what, siren, I have one more question for you." Theron narrowed his eyes. "How do you feel about a very long stay at Castle Elysium?"
"No!" Selene cried out.
"That wasn't the deal!"
Theron shrugged. "I said I wouldn't harm her, not that I wouldn't hold her in a cell."
"You made a deal with him?" Selene shouted.
"He said he was going to let you go after making sure you hadn't told anyone! You could just wipe her memory off" Raz said angrily.
"Wipe my memory!"
"What?" Theron scoffed. "You really believed I would let a ticking time bomb go off? Cheer up, siren, time will fly by in captivity. Eighty years at most." He pointed a finger at Raz. "I should have killed her to punish you for your impudence but I'm also doing you a favour. Be glad I'm imprisoning her. As if she'd ever stay with you otherwise."
Raz shook his head. The panic in his chest made it impossible to speak. Impossible to get the thoughts in his head into one coherent sentence. Despite how hard Raz tried, they kept slipped, unable to be grasped.
At Selene's confused face, Theron added nastily, "Oh didn't you know? You're his mate."
Her face drained in an instance. It was like switching to a black and white filter on a photo.
"No - I - I - I can't be. I'm a siren," she said, her voice trembling. She turned to look at Raz, her bottom lip quivering. Raz could almost feel her shaking in that chair. This was not how he wanted to play his last card.
"You son of a bitch!" Raz yelled, sending a fist flying in Theron's face but his blow was caught before it landed. Theron looked annoyed now.
"Stop being such a child."
Raz tried again with a second fist.
"That's it!" Theron sent a swift blow to his stomach. Raz bent in response making Theron relax. He took advantage of that by spinning into a kick, sending Theron falling to his knees.
Theron snarled before bouncing back up, ready to land a punch.
While the two were absorbed in taking the other down, they hadn't noticed Selene calmly unlocking the door. Their fight only broke out when they heard Isaac and a small horde of Redeemers burst into the room.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" Theron growled.
"Guarding the door." Isaac replied calmly. He nodded and four Redeemers swooped in, blocking Theron and Raz from Selene.
"What is happening!"
Isaac ignored that, instead asking Selene. "Are you still under the influence of the truth serum?"
"Oh, no you don't asshole!" Theron yelled. A guard slammed a baton over his head.
Raz felt sweat break in sharp pricks at his neck. Theron was an accomplished warrior. He shouldn't have any trouble fighting off six Redeemers. He could hear the blood rushing in his skull. Theron should have been able to take down Raz yet he couldn't before.
"I'm not," Selene replied, looking directly at Raz, her lips twisted in contempt. "But I'll tell you his secret anyway."
"No Selene!" Raz yelled. He breathed in and out slowly. Kali should be here by now. She could get Selene to safety. God damn it! Where was she?
"I know you're angry! I know you're furious but don't do this!! You have no idea -" Raz felt a sharp pain at the back of his skull accompanied by a thud. Then another. Then another. He fell to his knees.
Raz brought his fingers to the back of his head. It was sunken in. He groaned fighting the wavering in his vision.
"No, Selene..." He made out.
"Theron's hiding the fact that he has a little -"
A pop sound was the first thing Raz registered. Then was the fact that Selene had disappeared. He blinked, his mind not yet caught up to his senses.
"Where did she go?" A Redeemer shouted.
"The teleporter." Isaac said coldly. "We still have those two weakened. Now's the time to act. Hold them tight, the teleporter can't take them without taking us. We'll find the little bitch later."
He grabbed a machete off another Redeemer, turning to Theron.
"No," Raz said weakly.
An ear-splitting note reverberated through the room. No, through the entire castle. Raz could still distinguish that there were screams coming from outside.
Earpieces clattered to the floor, accompanied by yells. Redeemers pressing their hands to their ears.
The sound stopped.
"No you stupid oafs! She'll -"
Pop.
A familiar voice interrupted Isaac, "Slam your heads against the wall."
As soon as the words were formed, four Redeemers crashed to the walls, pounding their heads at the stone walls. Raz could hear the sickening crunch of bone breaking and soon after wet squelches. Thin trails of blood ran down the walls.
All but Isaac and two other Redeemers were left. One still holding Raz and another next to Isaac.
"Grab him!" Isaac screamed, pointing to Theron before charging at Selene. A Redeemer ran and grabbed Theron tugging at him by his hair.
Pop.
Denise appeared next to Theron, making the Redeemer move away to grab her. Denise swung her arm in an arc towards the Redeemer and disappeared. The Redeemer froze then looked around.
Theron vanished. How did he disappear? Denise hadn't even touched him.
The Redeemer clutched at a red spot in his torso then collapsed.
Selene was still here but standing in a new spot. Two steps away from where Isaac's blade had made a metallic clink against the wall.
Then she was gone. Not before Raz saw a strange woman materialise next to her.
Isaac laughed darkly, turning to Raz who was still held onto by a Redeemer. "You are one unlucky asshole."
He walked to Raz, bending down, his face so close that he could see the fat veins imploding against his forehead. He could see the beads of sweat break out across his face.
"You'll pay for the work of your friends." Isaac smiled maliciously.
Despite his words, Raz still felt his racing heart calm. Selene was safe. It wouldn't matter what Isaac did to him.
