A/N: This chapter is mainly focusing on the supporting characters. There will be no appearance from Stein and Spirit. However, I do think that this chapter is important to the overall storyline. What do you think of my characterization of Lord Death? Is he done okay? What did you think of this chap? Should I add more like this one instead of just having the one's that pertain directly to Stein and, or Spirit? Please Comment & Vote! I'd appreciate it. Btw do we have any fans of any of the characters mentioned in this chapter? If so, what do you think of how I present them?

Chapter Seven: Lifting us Higher

Kami sat near the window, peering out of it's fogged glass. She watched as the silhouetted shadows of the dusk danced along the abandonned streets. She was baffled about many things, and many things concerned her. Her mind wandered to many different places, to many different subjects. Lately, it seemed like everyone was falling apart, even Azusa, which frightened Kami. Sid was the one who showed the most distress, though. He never was the type of person to keep his emotions to himself. And quite frankly, it pained Kami to see Sid worry about things that he could not control.

The tension in her shoulders only seemed to relax when she was with Spirit. He was so ignorant of the world. She momentarily found herself wishing that she could be that way again, but she gave that life up years ago. The life she lived now was a life that was meant to protect others. She couldn't regret the decisions she'd made when she thought about their underlying purpose. She found herself sighing as the snow began to fall. The cold weather gave her a strange melancholy feeling. She never liked the winter time, it symbolized the changinf of the seasons, it symbolized the passing of another year.

Kami shivered as a chill ran over her body, she turned to see J.B. standing in the doorway. His hand still gripped the knob of her door. He wore a bland expression, as he often did when he was near Kami. That was another thing she never understood.

"Sid told me to tell you that he ordered take out. It should be here in  half an hour," he informed her.

"Ah, gotcha," she mumbled, turning back to look outside of the window.

She heard her door lightly close as J.B. left her to herself. She had no desire to leave her bedroom. She detested the glum atmosphere of the warehouse. That was one of the reasons she wanted to bring Spirit home with her. To her, it seemed like everyone was much more lively when he around. Sure, he irritated Sid for no apparent reason, and probably gave Azusa a headache, but he was fun, he was...cheerful, to say the least. Spirit was the kind of person that brightened the mood of those around him, just by being in their presence. Kami could tell that much, even if she hadn't known him for very long.

She found her mood brightening by just the thought of Spirit's silly nervous behavior. It was odd to her, really. He gave off the impression of a cooly collected and confident guy, but he was somewhat of a scatterbrain. A light chuckle escaped her mouth. It was something of the mixed emotions she held within. It was half-broken, yet, half-bubbly. The snow fell more violently now, nearly blocking out the light emanating from the street lamps. That was when she decided to do the one thing that gave her peace of mind. She leaned in closer to her window, breathing on it to form a thin layer of fog across it's surface.

She took her finger and lightly traced the numbers 42-42-564 and said the words,"Whenever you wanna knock on Death's door."

She watched as her window lit up with pulsating blue light. Then, the silly looking mask of Lord Death appeared.

"Yo, meister Kami, how's it hangin'?" he greeted.

"Hello, Lord Death. Everything is fine here," Kami replied.
