Chapter Nine: Haircut

Mira tied her scarf around her neck, preparing to leave work for the day. She slid gloves onto her delicate hands.

"Oh, Mira! Are you going for the day?" Aki questioned before Mira made it through the door.

She simply nodded. In all honesty, Mira wasn't a very social person, despite her occupation. She dealt with people all day, but that was because she had to, not because she wanted to. It wasn't that she was aloof, she was just a shy girl. Aki smiled at Mira, but the smile didn't reach her eyes. It was a kind of sad smile. He'd been so kind to her, but she never seemed to fully acknowledge him. Mira walked outside, leaving Aki awkwardly standing there.

She'd stepped into a sort of wonderland. Snow fluttered through the sky, glittering in the light of the streetlamps. The wind blew it feircly, beautifully through the wind. Nearly everything was covered in snow, if only lightly. It dusted softly over the sidewalk causing Mira to leave footprints as she made her way down the bustling street. She pulled her pliable scarf over the bottom half of her face, covering her mouth and her nose. It was a pale red color that nicely accented her skin.

She slid her hands into her pockets.  The air was quite chilly, sending a frosty feeling through her body, chilling her cheeks. She stopped when someone caught her eye. He was standing there, head tilted towards the sky, his silvery hair illuminated by the dim light. She felt compelled to walk up to him, to ask him what he was doing just standing there. And so she did. She reached to place her fingertips slightly on his shoulder.

        "Excuse me?"

The way she said the words made it sound like a question. They came out very soft spoken, as they often did. The boy turned to look at her, his face pale, not even colored by the chill in the air. He looked like the snow, beautiful and strangely fragile. Grey-green eyes met baby blues. It was a sort of odd situation that Mira had gotten herself into. She never willingly talked to others.

"Yes?" the silver haired boy questioned.

"I...I'm Mira Nygus," she stammered out.

He gave her a peculiar look, but didn't say anything in reply.

"I mean, I saw you just standing here, I was wondering... do you maybe have no where to go?"

"You got all that from just seeing me stand here?"

Mira blushed at his response in embarrassment, averting her gaze. She thought to herself that she shouldn't have spoken to him.

        "So...I am right?"

        "Pretty much, yeah," he confirmed.

        "What's your name?"

The boy seemed to hesitate before answering her.

        "Stein."

Stein, huh? She thought to herself.

        "You can stay-"

Mira began to speak, but abruptly stopped herself. She didn't want to invite a total stranger to her home. Though, it was so cold and he looked so...depressed. Stein gave her a thoughtful look. He didn't even know why he still stood there, talking to her.
