The city of Busan stood proudly as Korea's largest seaport, renowned for its nature reserves, beaches and hot springs.  Park Jimin had lived his whole life basking in Busan's smallest district Beomeosa with his parents and two very annoying younger sisters Jaewon and Minsoo.  Nothing about Jimin's life stood out to him as remarkable, being the eldest sibling just entering his final year of high school he'd been obligated to take up part time work at Sun-min's garage to help his family with the escalating cost of living.

Jimin had learned a lot about cars during the last year, he mainly washed them, ran errands and was the general dogs body, but Sun-min had gifted him a beat up old Chevrolet which he could work on in his own time, or when business was quiet.  Jimin loved the car, it was his ticket out of here into the big world when the time came.  In truth his small town life and small town existence were suffocating the air out of him, with Jimin always wondering if there was more to his existence than what he'd been given.

Jimin had a creative soul, he was an artist who composed large visual abstract pieces in their garage at home.  He would play music so loud through his headphones and whisk himself away as he danced with oil paints, each stroke and texture leaving his emotions raw for anyone to see.  However, his paintings were rarely for public display, they were a journal to him, with each piece unique and depicting how he'd felt at that particular time.  His parents and siblings clearly didn't get the concept of abstract painting and left him alone to do 'his thing'.  In fact the only one constant in his life, the only one who knew Jimin better than he knew himself was his life long best friend Min Yoongi.

Both boys grew up on the poorer side of the port and had been firm friends since Yoongi punched Lee Taemin in Kindergarten for trying to steal Jimin's lunch.  They'd seen each other at their best and worst with Jimin being present to see Yoongi's abusive drunk father keel over and die of a heart attack when the boys were 13,  and his mother run off with some guy a year later leaving Yoongi in the care of his older brother Namjoon.

Yoongi didn't mind so much, he could pretty much come and go as he pleased provided he attended school and kept his grades up and his nose clean.  Namjoon worked 2 jobs and was gone most of the time leaving Yoongi to basically raise himself, he'd grown a hard shell over the years and had gained himself a reputation as a the school 'bad kid' cos he didn't take shit from anyone.  His friendship with Jimin was the only true thing in his life, something he'd protect with his very soul.  He never needed to tell Jimin how he was feeling, he instinctively just knew and vice-versa.

That wasn't entirely true, Yoongi harboured a giant secret, one he'd never tell.  A secret that constricted his heart and kept him awake a night.  He was in love with his best friend and had been since he realised he was gay when puberty hit.  He'd always loved Jimin, he'd been Yoongi's family when he felt he had no one, he'd been his brother and confidant.  Jimin had blossomed over the years through Yoongi's eyes, they were around the same height, but Jimin had a much smaller frame with delicate hands and a feminine waist.  His almond eyes crinkled cutely when he flashed one of those special smiles only reserved for Yoongi and he'd often imagined Jimin's full, soft looking, pouty lips upon his own.

Jimin was comfortable with Yoongi's sexuality and it had never been an issue between the boys as Jimin had declared himself to be openly bi,  Even though he had only been on a few dates with girls who he'd kissed and groped a boob or two, but he was still a virgin.  Yoongi however, wasn't, he'd lost his innocence long ago to some drunk senior at a party held by his brother when he was still in high school.  Yoongi had been 15 and just wanted to get it over with, it hadn't been the best experience as the guy was half passed out drunk, but he wanted to be ready for Jimin if and when the time ever came.

To say that both boys social status at school was in the sub-zero category would be an understatement.  Yoongi was avoided  like the plague by most of the other kids, his pale complexion contrasted sharply against his deep brown eyes and black hair and his resting face resembled a scowl.  There were rumours circulating that his mother had killed his father and was doing time in some jail.  Jimin was described as cute but weird and his association with Yoongi made him uncool by proxy, but neither boy cared, they planned on leaving this dive as soon as school was out, seeing how far the Chevrolet and their wits would take them, even though Jimin's parents had bigger ideas such as college in mind for him.

Yoongi's creative outlet was underground rapping and in the underground clubs he was popular, treated like a king.  Going by the pseudonym of Suga, he'd managed to win bits of money to help him and Namjoon stay afloat.  Jimin knew he rapped, but his strict curfew had prevented him from seeing him perform, something Yoongi was glad at as most of his lyrics were about him. He'd won many rap battles and gained the respect of many of the more 'undesirable' inhabitants of the town, loving how Jimin looked at him in awe when a member of a bike gang would randomly high five him in the street or someone would call out 'good job last night Suga'

It didn't help Yoongi's social status by being the only 18 year old at Busan high with tattoos, they gave him a hard edge and acted as his shield he'd once admitted to Jimin during one of those deep and meaningful conversations they always shared.  Yoongi's favourite tattoo was one of an angel on his upper left bicep whose wings were large and wrapped around the top of his arm.  It was his favourite as It had been his first tattoo at 16 and Jimin had designed it for him, even holding his hand through the whole tattoo process.  These were the actions that made Min Yoongi's heart skip, it was the little things Jimin said or did that made him fall deep and hard in love with his best friend. But, it was also the reason he would never tell him how he felt, if he lost Jimin where would he be? Who would he be?  The pain of enduring an unrequited romantic love hurt less than the thought of no love from Jimin at all, so Yoongi resigned himself to the fact that Jimin would always be his best friend, but never his lover.
