Monday morning rolled around and Jimin had gotten to school early to continue on his art project. He had a free period first thing so he was feeling pumped at the prospect of a good few hours of undisturbed bliss with his paints and imagination. He was playing Boombayah by Black pink loudly on his phone, lost in his own thoughts about meeting up with Jungkook later that day. How would he react if Jungkook said he wasn't interested? or how would he react if he was? that thought scared him more than the first one. He'd not seen Yoongi, only recieved a quick text telling Jimin he was fine and having quality time with is brother. This made Jimin smile, he was glad something was going right for his best friend for a change and was looking forward to hearing all about it.
The artroom smelled of freshly squeezed oil paints mixed with thinners, and the sharpness of the turpentine that the brushes were cleaned in. The early morning quiet was giving way to the rowdy inkling of first arrivals barging through the halls, banging lockers, and doing their ritualistic adolescent dances of territoriality. Jimin ignored the din, working away on his painting, letting the music sweep him along. He felt a presence in the room as though another body had invaded his personal sanctuary and sighed in annoyance, turning to look as he paused his music.
Kim Taehyung stood in the doorway of the art room, expressionless as he took in Jimin's full appearance. The boys indeed were a stark contrast. Jimin was decked out in his oldest paint splattered jeans, his t-shirt mangled in oils as he used it to wipe his brushes on many occasions. Taehyung was immaculately turned out as always, crisp black button down shirt, tucked neatly into Armani jeans. Black shoes, that shone and reflected the spotlights above. Jimin's hair was dishevilled with splodges of green paint decorating the front, and he was sure there was a patch or two on his face. Tae looked every bit as Hollywood as he always did, not a hair out of place, or a manicured nail with a spot of dirt to be seen.
Jimin suddenly felt very self conscious about his appearance, the way Taehyung was looking at him, taking him in as if to wonder why Jungkook might be tempted over to the slums. He felt nervous and inferior, obviously Tae's intentions he thought to himself as the boys continued to stare without speaking. Taehyung sat down casually on a nearby table "How are you doing?" he asked like they were actual friends. "I'm ok, how are you?" replied Jimin calmly deciding to go along at whatever game the jock was playing. Taehyung carried on the intense stare "You nervous about something Jimin?".
Jimin continued to paint, hoping that the brush strokes would disguise the slight trembling of his hands. "Not at all......are you?" he threw back nonchalantly. "You always come to school early?" Tae asked, ignoring the question as they continued playing cat and mouse. "Not always.. You?" continued Jimin. "I never come to school early Jimin, but i decided to today". Jimin didn't like the way his name fell from Tae's lips icily as if there was a warning undercurrent. Jimin stopped his work and looked at Tae quizzically "so why today" he asked, not really sure he wanted to know the answer.
"I wanted to talk to you" the Armani clad boy stated. Jimin sucked in a breath "About.....?" Jimin let the question mark dangle. Taehyung smiled, one that didn't reach his eyes, dismissing his surroundings with a gesture. "I didn't come to talk about art" he laughed sardonically. "Jungkook" he stated, staring into Jimin's wide eyes at the name. "I just wan't you to know I'm cool with it" he said as Jimin looked around for the trap he was obviously walking into. "I don't like you" Tae continued ignoring Jimin's discomfort. "But i'm the one who fucked up, and you're the lucky bastard standing in the sidelines ready to pounce, am I wrong?"
Jimin was unnerved by the turn of the conversation, an ass whooping would probably feel less uncomfortable. "I don't like you either" Jimin stated with more confidence than he felt, "and I can't tell you about what Jungkook want's, as it's completely up to him at the end of the day" he said in all honesty. "But yes, I've asked him on a date" Jimin said as he brought his eyes back up to Tae. Jimin couldn't tell if he was mistaken, but he saw Tae's shoulders slump slightly before he straightened himself up to his previous demeanor .
"He's allergic to shellfish, his favorite band is EXO and he loves lamb skewers" Tae stated as he stood abruptly, Jimin expecting the jumping from his cronies to happen now. But Tae just turned and walked towards the art room door, with one last look at Jimin "don't break his heart" he whispered as he walked out closing the door behind him and leaving Jimin with a mixture of shock and even guilt. The usual pompus Kim Taehyung actually looked contrite and almost broken as he'd left the room.
No longer able to concentrate, Jimin packed away his art things and jumped in the shower of the gym changing room before the sweaty jocks returned from their morning practice. He quickly dried and dressed himself in the clean clothes he'd brought with him with still some time to spare before his first class. He played over the strange conversation in his head, had Taehyung backed down gracefully? it really wasn't his style thought jimin, and it left him feeling on edge and looking over his shoulder.
School was awash with rumors and whispers, and he'd seen more than one pair of eyes on him, or fingers point his way. 'Good news travells fast' he thought to himself sarcastically as he ignored the gossips wondering if Jungkook was feeling like a bug under a microscope too. He spotted the familiarity of a worn out biker jacket, digging deep into his locker and breathed out a sigh of releif. "Yoongi" he shouted, running over to his friend, who looked momentarily as if he was contemplating ignoring him, but stopped when he realised there was no escape. Jimin felt a slight sting looking at a guilty Yoongi "Sorry Min, I'm not feeling upto social niceties this morning, nothing personal" he shrugged.
"Are we o..ok?" stuttered Jimin nervously. He thought things were fine between them, but Yoongi seemed slightly off still. "So, you and Jungkook eh?" Yoongi said as he cleared his throat uncomfortably, not quite able to look his best friend in the eyes. "You're the centre of the gossip mill Jimin, congratulations on crossing over to the dark side" he laughed, but it was hollow, no malice, but no hint of their usual friendly banter either. "Hey, I don't know what the gossip is, but no doubt it's been blown out of proportion" stated Jimin matter of factly.
"So Prince Jungkook broke up with King Taehyung and the steely knight sir Jimin of shit hole swept in and took his chance?" questioned Yoongi with a raised eyebrow and half a smile. "Umm, pretty much, yeah" Jimin blushed looking down at the floor, "but he's not said yes yet..." he added. "Oh, he will" Yoongi smiled at him. "Meet me at the garage later?" asked Jimin hopefully "I've missed you.." he added. "Sure kid" Yoongi said affectionately ruffling his semi dried hair, he could never be mad at the bundle of cuteness in front of him, he was his world after all.
Jimin pulled him in for a hug taking him by surprise, he didn't know why but he really needed to feel Yoongi's arms around him right now, he was feeling overwhelmed with the whole fucking day and he'd only been at school a few hours. Yoongi decided to bury his feelings away and be the best friend he was supposed to be at this point, remembering Namjoon's words of wisdom, and embraced Jimin in the comforting way only he knew how. "You ok Min?" he breathed sending a shiver down Jimin's neck, making him gasp and step back "yeah, yeah, I'm fine, weird day" he blushed. The boys parted ways smiling as they usually did, going in their own directions for the rest of the day, one's head spinning in confusion and one's heart broken, but neither any the wiser.
