It was raining outside, pelting down in fact. The clouds were a steely grey to match Yoongi's mood, as the threat of thunder mimicked his underlying temper. Yoongi and Jimin had kept a bit of distance for a few days after the 'Jungkook' conversation. He was trying his best to be a good friend, he really was, but the acid reflux of the words he so desperately wanted to spew out was making his life hell. Yoongi was pissed off, with the world, with his shitty life, with Jimin and especially with himself. To top it all off, as if someone was mocking his foul mood, the heavens had opened and pissed all over his chance of cutting school during gym class.
Due to the weather, their normal track session had been switched to gymnastics in the large indoor sports auditorium. Yoongi rarely participated, or even showed up to class, the teacher hated him anyway, and he hated how her large fake tits would be solid as a rock, but the rest of her body bounced when she ran. She was the real 'Debbie housewife' sort, all pep and gusto. She'd easily been cheer captain in her day, probably married the main jock, who would now be sporting middle aged spread due to a knee injury, gone bald in his late 20's and now worked as a car salesman. Yoongi chuckled sarcastically to himself as they were ushered from their changing room into the gym.
God he needed a cigarette, he'd been trying to quit, or at least to cut down as he knew Jimin hated it. 'Fuck Jimin', he thought harshly, why did he let this boy cloud his thoughts and try to make him good, something he wasn't, nor did he want to be. Despite his awful mood though, he couldn't really be angry for long with the clueless boy, the heart wants what it wants right? and although Yoongi knew he had a place in Jimin's, it wasn't enough. He wanted to be the centre of it, he wanted Jimin's waking thoughts to be of him, not some middle class, well dressed preppy prince.
Speak of the devil, and there he was. Jungkook looking immaculate in the school colours, his gym uniform pristinely ironed, skin glistening with the sweat of a hefty workout. Yoongi looked down at his own attire, mismatched hand me downs from his brother that were a few sizes too big, with 'MIN' in large letters on the back. The vest showed off his tattoo's, an he caught the looks he got from both sexes. They were a mixture of disgust, mockery and fear, with just a few of idle curiosity. Yoongi ignored the gymnastic apparatus in favour of the basket ball hoop at the back of the gym, and proceeded to shoot perfect hoops, bouncing the ball loudly on the wooden floor as he lined up his shots. The gym teacher ignoring him as she couldn't deal with his shit right now, and at least he was participating in something for once right?
"Wow, you should be on the team" a bright sing song voice boomed behind him. Yoongi internally cringed, he knew who it was, and he couldn't deal with facing Jimin's crush, especially under this cloud of his foul mood. He continued perfecting his shots as if he hadn't heard Jungkook, but the guy was either stupid, or had a death wish as he interjected the ball on it's second bounce and shot it through the hoop, grinning at Yoongi with a challenging sparkle in his eye. "Fancy some one on one?" questioned Jungkook bouncing the ball tauntingly.
There was no malice in Jungkook's question, he merely wanted some inside information about the cute boy that had piqued his interest recently. He'd seen Yoongi at the garage that night and knew they were close. He'd noticed Jimin a lot more, the cute, shy boy that made his stomach flutter a little. Perhaps it was the fact that the boy obviously had a crush on him. He'd caught him dreamily staring at him on more than one occasion and it was making Tae crazy with jealousy. He'd been with Tae just shy of a year, but in all that time he'd never felt really wanted, for more than his body anyway. He knew he wasn't Tae's equal, and the way he threw his money around often reminded him of that. Yes, his family were comfortable, but he knew the value of hard work, of having to earn your way through life.
Jungkook continued to bounce the ball waiting for Yoongi's move. He was kind of intimidated by the tattoo's and the deep scowl, even though he was over a foot taller than him, and had a wider build. There was something about the boy in front of him that oozed danger and he was starting to lose his nerve, his bright smile fading. He was about to drop the ball and walk away, not wanting to prod a stick at a sleeping lion, cos he knew he'd come out the loser. Yoongi suddenly found his voice and spoke up "I doubt you could handle one on one with me sweetheart" he said with mocking sweetness, although there was nothing sweet in the way he said it. "But if you wanna play ball, lets go" Yoongi said as he grabbed the ball from Jungkook's hand and laid a perfect shot.
Jungkook was momentarily taken off guard, there was an undertone to Yoongi's words, as if the playing ball had been more of a metaphorical challenge, but he didn't quite understand the connotation. Was he warning him away from Jimin? Pushing through the uncomfortable interaction, and the air that had settled over the two opponents, Jungkook made his move and lunged for the ball. Yoongi, was quick, he dodged the advance and tauntingly dribbled the ball in a figure 8 motion between his legs, before bringing it up in a spin on his middle finger, all the while staring at Jungkook intimidatingly with a half smile, the middle figure an obvious flip of the bird.
Jungkook scoffed in mock laughter at the tough guy, yeah he was good, but the challenge was accepted. With a swift move, and one Yoongi wasn't expecting he managed to get the ball and make a shot "game on" he smiled knowing that he was pissing off the wanna be gangster in front of him. This wasn't even about the game anymore, and they both knew it. Jimin was the proverbial ball and they were tackling each other for it as if their lives depended on it. "So, you're Jimin's friend right?" Jungkook panted as their exchange became more physical.
Both boys were pulling out the big guns, and to a small crowd of observers it had become a pretty good game. There were a few whoops and cheers from onlookers and a few shocked faces at how good this Min kid was. "Yeah, what of it?" Yoongi asked, never losing eye contact. "He's interesting, kinda nice" Jungkook stated with the confidence of a man who knew what he wanted. Yoongi once again tackled the ball lining up his shot "Oh look, I think Taehyung is calling you" he smirked as he took the shot. It rolled twice around the rim of the hoop before if fell in, to a cheer from the crowd that had formed. Jungkook had looked around worriedly for his boyfriend, realising then what Yoongi had meant, the ball rolling away along the wooden floor. "Game to me I think" smiled Yoongi before throwing a towel over his shoulder and sauntering away.
He left Jungkook behind, mouth slightly open as the crowd disbursed to hit the showers. That had been a weird conversation, but both boys had made themselves perfectly clear. Not many words had passed between them, but so much had been said in the silence, in the actions and body language. Yoongi didn't like him, didn't trust him to be good enough for his friend. He judged him on his relationship with the school rich kid and his own popularity. Or was there more to it? did the tough guy act hide a much deeper agenda? Jungkook thought to himself. Either way, he was going to get to know Jimin, he owed it to himself to see if there was anything in that small spark between them.
He hadn't liked the way Tae had been making him feel recently, yes, the sex was always so good, but Jungkook often felt like a piece of meat, as if he was Tae's property to show off. He wanted more than that, he wanted the feels. Someone to make him feel worshipped and special, the way that Jimin looked at him like he was something precious. Perhaps it was selfish of him, he knew that, but maybe if he explored it, there might be something there? he pondered as he sauntered into the shower thinking about his next move.
