Jisung muttered to himself as he scribbled down words in his notebook, some of them being lyrics he could use for his raps, but the majority being random thoughts that came to mind. Currently, most of the thoughts involved his uncle and how he wished he would at least act like he could tolerate Jisung's presence, but he didn't. It was a Thursday morning and Jisung still hadn't managed to find a job, likely because he hadn't left the house since Friday. Every time he pulled his coat on to leave, something told him it was a bad idea and he ran back to the safety of his bedroom.
"Jisung!" His aunt shouted from downstairs, pulling Jisung out of his thoughts. He got up from his chair and made his way to the landing where he looked down at his aunt. "Hyunjin is here. Should I send him up?"
Jisung bit back a sigh as he nodded and walked back to his bedroom. The last thing he wanted was to see Hyunjin, but Hyunjin was his only friend and he didn't want to push him away. Even if he was a dickhead most the time and had done some awful things to him in the past.
As Jisung sat down in his desk chair, Hyunjin entered the room with a grin that was too wide to not have a reason behind it. It didn't take long for him to explain what that was. "Jisung, I've decided I'm going to start rapping!" He proclaimed, taking a seat on the edge of Jisung's bed.
Jisung furrowed his brow. "A rapper? But you don't rap?"
"I didn't rap," Hyunjin corrected, "I've been going to these cyphers with you for years now and as you don't have the confidence to do it, I thought I'd give it a try. I'm better than I thought I was going to be too, maybe as good as you!"
It was getting harder and harder for Jisung to not roll his eyes. Instead, he said, "show me then."
"What, like now?"
"Yeah, like if you were at a cypher. Pretend I'm your opponent and rap for me," Jisung instructed, a smug grin starting to tug at his lips. He already knew Hyunjin didn't have a clue what he was doing.
"Well...don't I have to like practise first or something?"
"Just insult me, Hyunjin."
Hyunjin cleared his throat. He stood up and started swinging his arms back at forwards, looking up as if he was searching for the words to say on the ceiling. "Jisung...you've been rapping since you were fourteen but...uh, you don't seem that keen..."
Jisung almost let out a laugh and clapped his hand over his mouth to stop himself. There was no flow to Hyunjin's words and Jisung didn't know if it could even be called a rap. He'd thought for longer than he should have and that's all he could come up with. "You know, you might be right. That was so much better than I could do," he said, his voice thick with sarcasm which went unnoticed by Hyunjin.
"Yeah? So I'll rap against SpearB tomorrow night!?" Hyunjin said, visibly excited at the compliment.
"SpearB?" Jisung's interest was sparked, "but he'd been slamming everyone at the underground for a year now and he's never lost! There's no way you're considering going up against him?"
"Why not? Wouldn't you try it?"
"Hell no! I don't have a death wish," Jisung scoffed, "if you have any brain cells you'll reevaluate your decision."
Hyunjin smirked instead, "you're just jealous I can rap without stuttering and having a panic attack."
Jisung finally rolled his eyes as he turned away from his best friend, picking up his pen and reopening his notebook. "Whatever, Hyunjin," he mumbled. This time when he scribbled down his thoughts, his uncle wasn't the subject he floated towards. Hyunjin was.
