Jim watched Taisa, as she stood awkwardly behind Mr. Sulu at the navigation station. She seemed anxious,  and he wanted to know why.

"Taisa!" He called to her. Taisa spun around.

"Yes... Captain?" Taisa asked. She still wasn't used to calling anyone her captain other than Serenity, which she had done so for years. Jim shifted in his seat.

"So, how long have you worked as a navigator?" Jim asked.
"Since the day my beloved Mother...... my Captain,  your sister Serenity took me and my twin half siblings in after we were abandoned. She took care of us as her own," Taisa told him. She smiled at the memory. Jim looked at her puzzled.

"What?" Jim asked. Taisa looked at him.

"Captain Serenity built her ship to with stand time for her crew members if they so desire. I... We normally just call her Mom... there are so many of us that she has saved. Some of us were very near death in our younger years. She put her life on the line for all of us,  and for that we will follow her instructions completely. As for her, where ever she goes,  we will follow without question.  The Blackout is very much alive, and she prefers to be called Beryl. My Captain mother taught me navigation on Beryl. Our instruments as you saw, are very different from yours," Taisa told him. Jim thought about what she said.

"So she IS a guardian angel!" Jim said aloud.

"Indeed. That is where the stories came from... She told me that she once saw a child die,  and no one went to help them.  She had raced over to save them,  but they had already passed on,  ready to enter the next world. She had vowed from that moment on, as long as she existed, no child should ever suffer such pain and loneliness. Now the stories live on about her, as they had so named her The Guardian Angel, " Taisa explained to him.

"Wow!" Jim was nearly speechless. At that moment, Nurse Allie Thomas came in carrying his niece Selene. "Where is Spock?" Jim asked as he took Selene into his arms.

"I was told to tell you that Serenity your sister is awake, but to not disturb them untill 600 hours. Mr. Spock said they had 'things' to attend to, " The nurse responded.

"Really? Things to attend to?" Jim snorted.

"Ba baa ba!" Selene spoke, pointing at her uncle. Jim nearly jumped. This was the first time she had made any noise towards him. Jim looked at her in amazement.

"Ba, ba baa aba ba!" Selene said. Jim and Bones, who now stood next to him, both smiled.
"Yes that's right, I'm uncle Jim. That's Uncle Bones, " Jim cooed at his little niece.

"I checked Serenity's growth rate.  If my calculations are correct,  this little one should be starting actual words in about 5 months, " Bones informed him. Jim's eyes went wide as he looked at the ship's doctor.

"Really!? "
