Jim sat alone at the bar. He took a sip of his drink,  and smiled faintly at the girl two chairs beside him. Just as he was about to make a move, Christopher Pike sat between them. Jim huffed in defeat.

"How did you find me? " Jim asked.

"I know you better than you think I do. Yeah,  the first time I found you was at a dive like this,  remember that? Got your ass handed to you."

"No I didn't," Jim protested.

"Oh  you don't remember?" Pike asked, slightly surprised.

"No, that's not what happened," Jim argued.

"That was an epic...beating!"

"No it wasn't, " Jim protested again. He took another drink.

"You had napkins hanging out of your nose, " Christopher said, remembering. "Did you not?" Jim laughed at the memory.

"Yeah, that was a good fight," he told Captain Pike.

"A good fight?!" Pike repeated flabbergasted. "I think that's your problem right there." Jim just looked at him. "They gave her back to me. The Enterprise." Jim was silent for a moment.

"Congratulations. Watch your back with that first officer though." Jim poured himself another drink.

"Spock's not working with me. He's been transferred, USS Bradbury. You're gonna be my first officer. Admiral  Marcus took some convincing. But every now and then I can make a good case. Also your sister, Sere can be quite intimidating."

"Well, what did you tell him?" Jim asked curiously.

"The truth. That I believe in you. That if anybody deserves a second chance, it's Jim Kirk, " Pike explained.

"I don't know what to say," Jim told him.

"Well, that's a first. Don't you worry,  son." Chistopher said. A moment later his comm rang. He flipped it on. "Emergency session,  Daestrom. That's us."

"Yeah." Christopher gently patted his shoulder.

"Suit up."
