Alternative Universe LawsBefore the Olympian Gods, the Titans ruled. They were the offsprings of primordial deities: Uranus who was the heaven and Gaia who was the Earth.

Cronus and Rhea, I was the only one that remembered colour in the world. The tunnels of the stomach were vast and they stretched on, it would take a day to reach the end of each one. Not that it was easy to distinguish what was a day in the pipes of a monster. It reeked. The smell was so foul I wanted to gag with each breath. There were other dead things here, not that we knew what it was. Deformed figments of failed creation that began to mould on the sides of the tunnels. Their skin flaked as they deterred from the living. In the pits of the stomach of our creator, that was where I met the other creations of Cronus and Rhea.Hestia was the first Goddess I found when I was thrown inside. It was a name I had given her because she was the source of the light in the darkness. She protected the heart and because of her I found strength. Hestia's appearance was of a child like my own, her dewy skin was far more beautiful than mine. The blonde of sunsets streamed down into locks under her waist. Her eyes were a very diluted colour of blue, like a cloud covering the sky. She wore a golden silk dress, it was probably made by The Mother before we were held as hostage. Hestia was blind, I had to hold her hand to let her know I was here. She was gentle with me, she wouldn't even dare grip onto my hand too tightly. She was kind with her words, as little that left her lips. I would grow flowers in the sewers of our creator's stomach, like how Gaia, the mother of the earth had taught me. It was her gift that allowed me to manipulate nature. It was these measly small crafts in which she found happiness in. She would delicately touch the petals and smile fondly at them. It was moments like this in the darkness where I grew fond of her. She was the one whom I trusted.
Time was hard to distinguish when there was nothing separating the period of darkness. But for us, day came when our creators mouth parted to allow a spark of light to grace our misery. It was her who fell from the void. I watched her carefully, because I knew I only had a few mere seconds before the world returned to darkness. Her hair fluttered around her as she descended and it reminded me of the bark from a tree when the light first kissed it in the morning. Yet her eyes were a shimmering blue, like it held the sea under the breath of day. She had already been here the shortest amount of time but her dewy skin had already begun to dim from the lack of sunlight.
When I approached her, she stood up a metre tall, she smiled and it set my heart at ease. Her name was Hera. She was the first our mother managed to name, it meant Queen. I gathered our mother's sentiment, she wanted an end to this tyranny as well. I think that was the first time I laughed since my fall because there was already something malignant brewing in my chest.
Hera spent the days being outrageous just to make us laugh. It was harmony in the most unexpected places. But it was our respected sister Hestia who didn't move too much, it was something I never quite understood but my worries would diminish when Hestia would smile slightly at Hera's made up stories.
We spent our lives like this until a day came where a boy, fell from the opening. His fall was slower, like he was manipulating the air around himself. This time there wasn't a spark of light that guided him to the pit of Cronus' stomach. It was a faint blue fiery mist that spiralled around his body. His hair was no different from the darkness, it was the origin of the absence of light. And like Hera his skin had no glow, it was porcelain, like his skin had yet to touch the light. This boy fell from great heights and landed calmly on his two feet. The wind that coated him sprung into all different directions like its pressure was finally being released. It was hard to stand on my own and I worried for Hestia who may not have seen what had happened. She held my hand and squeezed it to show that she was fine. The boy turned around, and his eyes could have been closed, otherwise I would have seen a pair of blue seas staring back at me. Instead all I saw was a figment of shadows hiding in his silhouette. I thought I saw blue flames dance along his skin, but each time I blinked, they would disappear, like my mind was playing tricks.
My legs aren't strong enough, I knew this as my chest numbed. It was not fear I repeat in my head. This boy, who was most probably scared, like I was on the first day I descended. I reached my hands out and I call to him.
"I'm Demeter, I will look after you now."
It seemed as though my words had reached his heart, because his hand held mine and the friendliest smile captivated me. I couldn't clearly see the details of his face since the light had long left the cave of the stomach they were trapped in. Nor was the light that streamed from my skin was sufficient to see a strip of his face. He blinked and that was when I first noticed it. His eyes spiralled into a million streams of black, it was like the darkness in them were alive. He too was a quiet deity, otherwise he would chatter away like Hera. His voice was clear, he was going to grow stronger as his fundamental essence already radiated this much strength. It was his aura, and the way he could balance the authority that filled the deep tone of his voice and the peace that came with the night.
"The Great Mother calls me Hades. I am going to free you."
