Cattle. It was how Demeter perceived anything that roamed the Earth. It didn't matter if it were sheep, cows or humans. They were all herds or cattle. She insisted despite the many corrections of her nymphs. And it was her duty as the Goddess of Harvest to ensure they were fed well. And over the days these creatures, who she no longer could distinguish from animals, grew in number.

Near Mount Olympus, where some spring water had collected, was a small lake hidden by the trees. Demeter enjoyed the Earth more than the Heavens. Here there was no one to disturb her. There were no rules or formalities to follow. Even when a thousand shades of blue had come to paint the sky, she could soak her feet in the waters until light turned to dusk. Surrounding her was a fruitful Earth filled with vegetation. She created plants to eat, like fruits, and plants to heal, like herbs. There were trees she planted too so one could find shelter. The birds' chirps formed a sweet song and the aroma of fragrant berries filled the air. For weeks, the Goddess' time was spent like this after she had blessed the fields of the villagers.

But the sudden ruffling of leaves from across the pond was the first disruption to Demeter's peaceful afternoon. It seemed civilisation had reached this region already. Demeter chuckled, humans bred quickly. The Goddess could pinpoint the location of the man that had ran to the edge of the lake for water. He froze after having his fill, the water having quenched his thirst, and glanced up to meet her gaze. Yet before Demeter could condemn him for spying on her, he had perished on the spot. His body burst from the heat like corn on a hot day and the ashes of his remains piled up next to the lake.

Good. Demeter thought as she continued serenity alone once again.

The second intrusion to Demeter's afternoon was the presence of the Titan Prometheus. It was peculiar to the Goddess how he took a human form, normally, he would stand as tall as the mountain itself. The Titan sighed deeply as he looked at the pile of ashes across from the lake. He sighed again because Demeter ignored him. She was immediately defensive. "It wasn't me. Your creation broke on its own." She held up a lily and waved him away. "You should have made them sturdy. Look at my creations, they do not combust. Even the other animals do not turn to ashes in my presence."

There was a pause before the Titan laughed. "That's quite alright, Goddess Demeter, I can fix him. He died upon seeing your divine form. You must take a human form, otherwise he will return to ashes."

"I will not!" Demeter shouted, she grabbed her robes and covered the sheer layer of silk on her body. "I am a Goddess of true divinity and have battled courageously during the war against the Titans. I will not renounce the essence that has been passed down since the time of the Founding Gods. Ever! This human was watching me as I bathed, he should rightly perish. How dare he act atrocious in my presence?"

"Only for a short while. My Goddess, please take your human form, it is only in appearance. I'll show you something interesting."

But Demeter's curiosity was a weakness she wouldn't dare admit aloud. The irritation remained, but nonetheless, she transformed. It was difficult not to when the Titan beside her was on his knees pleading on his knees. She sighed as the glow from her dewy honey skin dissolved. Her hair turning a warm blonde, the golden light diminishing. The aura of a great Goddess disappearing, revealing a mortal body, although in appearance only. Despite her divinity hidden, her unmatched beauty remained.
