Hope and Klaus stay back at the Compound, as both Freya and I go to help the werewolves with the float. It took a lot of convincing for Freya to let me go, but she finally caved after 20 minutes of listening to me ramble—I can be very annoying. Keelin texted Freya saying that they had all moved to the church to organize the outfits for the parade.
As I pass the second pair of heavy wooden doors, I enter the main part of the church. I see instead of the normal rows of dark wood benches, there are tables set up across the room, a table for each station. I can see there's a station for masks, clothing, and accessories. I see Freya walk over to Lisina to ask where she is needed. I'm about to do the same, but I see a bubbly brunette waving me over to the station next to Lisina's.
I give her a smile back, and start to walk over. Her names Anna she's apart of the pack but doesn't go to the Salvatore School because she's not a werewolf, but her parents were. They died a year ago, and she has still yet to trigger her curse. But that didn't stop the pack from inviting her in, and them becoming her family—including me.
As I reach her, I say excited to see her, "Hey!"
"What's up? It's the middle of the school year, you always miss Mardi Gras?" Anna replies.
"You don't seem glad I'm here, I can always go back—" I start to say, sarcasm dripping from my voice.
But Anna cuts me off with a laugh, "That's not what I meant, and you know it!"
I can't help but let a smile breakthrough, "Yah, I know."
"So, why are you here, besides you wanted to see your only non-supernatural friend?" she says with a smirk, turning back to the accessories she sorting.
"You know everything with Hayley," I say, knowing the sadness is prevalent in my voice.
There's a brief silence before Anna says, "I'm sorry, I tried to find you after the funeral, but it's like you disappeared with the Mikaelsons."
I sigh, "Yah, what happened after the funeral is kind of why I'm still in town. It's all this business with Hope's family and the spell that happened years ago. I was trying to help, but kind of all just blew up," I say trying to simplify it as much as possible, which isn't usually easy with anything having to do with the supernatural.
"Wow sounds like a lot," Anna says, her eyes growing wide.
"Yah," I say, almost thinking to mention I almost died, but I go against it because I don't want to worry her. Instead, I ask, "What about you?"
"Oh, nothing that drastic...thank god," she says with a smile, which caused me to as well. "But there's this guy at school..."
I turn to face her, with a surprised look on my face. When she doesn't immediately start talking, I say with a smile, "Spill, now!"
She lets out a soft chuckle, "Well... he plays for the lacrosse team, he's really good. He made varsity freshman year. And I'm pretty sure he likes me...and he may or may not be standing over there." She points over to a table across the room. I look up to see a brown-haired boy, about our age.
I say whispering, "He's cute." It feels weird to talk about this, with everything going on in the supernatural world. But also I haven't seen Anna this happy since her parents died, and I know this is exactly what we need to talk about.
"I know, right?!" Anna says with energy.
"Well, if this is a possible boyfriend, I have to drill, I will be right back," I say, pretending to walk away.
