Contrary to popular belief- if you count his brother and sister as popular- Todoroki did understand his own feelings. He knew that the way he felt safe in his mother's embrace was love, he knew the anger he felt for his father was borderline hatred, he knew the adrenaline running through his veins during a fight was excitement, and he knew the shakiness in his limbs when asked to come home by his father was fear.

So yeah, you could say he knew himself pretty freaking well.

I mean, that's all he had grown up with.

Himself.

The only person who kept him company during those long, pain-filled years. The one who bandaged his burns before they became infected. The one who understood loneliness at its most basic form.

So, Todoroki was no stranger to emotions and feelings. He just had a brilliant poker face. Or so he thought.

He couldn't deny the side looks he got from his classmates whenever he smiled slightly. And he may have only smiled when Izuku was around. But that wasn't important at all, no no no, not even a little bit.

Or so he told himself.

So yes, maybe after the project they had been set to do the week before, the one where Izuku decided to be a villain and was so good at it that everyone gave him as wide a berth as possible for the rest of the day, he had been a little more hot and bothered than usual.

Not because Izuku had been the villain.

But because he had looked damn good in that suit.

Todoroki wasn't inclined to people in suits. He had grown up around them his whole life, it was nothing new. But damn, could Izuku pull off a suit.

But it's not like it wasn't common knowledge that Izuku was muscular.

That wasn't why Todoroki liked him though. It never had been.

And this crush may or may not have been going on since the sports festival... which was last year... nearly eight months ago. Oops?

It had started with Izuku literally breaking his bones to save Todoroki from himself. Which was kind of weird but appreciated, might he add.

Then, the Stain incident. It only served to strengthen the slowly growing bond between each other.

After that, Izuku had begun to befriend Todoroki. And in all honesty, it was really nice having someone he could trust. Izuku was kind and smart and funny, easily steering the conversation away from unwanted topics for any of them, Iida and Uraraka included once he started going to lunch with all of them.

He had found a place in their group. The one who was quiet but listened, stoic but unwavering, and most importantly, blunt but caring. He had never been graced with the knowledge of social interaction and it's ins and outs, so they all knew that whatever he said was the truth.

Therefore, when his heart had started beating a little faster than normal when Izuku beamed at him like he did every day, all he wanted to do was curl up beside the boy and protect him. He knew what it meant.

Izuku was his crush.

He would be an idiot not to notice.

Knowing this didn't change their relationship however. All it did was make it harder to control his quirk.

Because for some totally known reason, his fire started to associative itself lighting with Izuku's voice. And his face, and his hair, and his eyes. Him. In general. Which made it so much harder to stop the little flames from igniting along his left arm, or the steam to escape through his nostrils, or the heat of his skin becoming so hot it could burn a person through touch alone.
