Mischief

Aizawa woke up in the hospital.

Yamada greeted him, puffy-eyed and tired, a grim look on his face even despite the fact he tried to hide it with a smile.

Seeing those red rimmed eyes only set Aizawa further on edge.

"They got Eri too." Hizashi's voice was barely a whisper, Aizawa's ears having to strain themselves just to hear him among the beeping of the heart monitor, but when he did a stone fell into a bottomless pool of dread in his stomach.

Panic tore through him, his bones filling with lead. His exhausted body couldn't temper his reactions, wasn't able to hide the shakes that ravaged his body. Yamada looked on in silence, unable to help his friend, his husband, the one who had held him through panic attacks and after injuries. After losing people to the dark side.

Aizawa had always been there for him, and yet there was nothing he could do to help him now. This was too deep, too personal for a simple hug to provide solace.

Aizawa's hands shook with every breath he took in, his mind imagining the many scenarios that could be unfolding for Izuku right now.

He wasn't truly scared for Eri.

He knew Izuku would die before they laid a hand on Aizawa's daughter.

And that was what worried him most.

A burst of energy overtook him, causing him to yank the IV from his hand, standing up and startling Mic in the process.

"What are you doing Aizawa?"

Aizawa paused, staring Hizashi in the eyes with a fierce expression.

"I'm going to save them."

*********

Bakugou didn't want to believe it. Could barely look at the rubble scattered in front of him without cringing, his heart's beat a rapidly increasing pound.

We had just begun to get along again.

Why did that asshole have to come back?

What had happened between him and Izuku?

Bakugou couldn't figure it out. Figure anything out.

There were no clues, no leads to help the investigation.

Nothing.

It was like Izuku had never been here, never fought here, the only roof there had been a fight was the wrecked building in front of the class.

No one was holding up well.

Uraraka was crying into Iida's shoulder, shoulders shaking as she sobbed. Frog girl rubbed her back softly, tears present in her own eyes. The Bakusquad was huddled together, trying to form a plan and taking quiet comfort from each other. The others were looking for pieces of evidence, anything that could help them find Izuku. Icy-hot had left a while ago, running off somewhere. They had tried to stop him, but the huge slab on ice in the middle of the road showed how well that had gone down.

Bakugou could feel the dread setting in.

He didn't know if he could stand losing Izuku after all the effort he had put into gaining back his trust, all the things he had planned to do to earn it back. He didn't know if he could recover from losing Izuku.

He didn't know if anyone would be able to.

That nerd's smile brightened everyone's lives up.

If it was gone...

Was being a hero even worth it if they couldn't save the sweetest person in their class?
