Weeks went by. Sammy moved into his friend Gabe's house, when Gabriel learned that he couldn't stay with his father anymore. John drank beer all day, and despite how much Dean loathed the guy, he still has a soft spot and would drive by their house to peer in the window and see that his dad isn't dying in his own filth yet. Cas thought it was very noble of him, despite how he felt about his father as well.
Dean was coughing more and more, and Cas tried to ask him about it. Maybe he had a recurring childhood asthma or was allergic to something. Dean turned him down every. Single. Time.
Castiel's family wrote to him a few times, the old fashioned way. Michael refused to get a phone to text and Anna was too busy on her phone to give Cas a call once in a while. Cas was keeping up in college, Dean was passing his classes, barely.
Until one day Dean dropped out of college, and the two lovers had their first fight.
And the next day, where Dean stopped going to Church completely.
And even after that, when Dean decided he was going to move in to Cas' dorm.
Cas finished more paintings of Dean's face. It had many countours and sometimes he switched up colours to make it look cooler, but none of it really stood out enough. The paint never dried right, the colours were always off.
It was raining one day and Cas tore a hole through the canvas in frustration because Dean was a bit more depressed, and he couldn't do anything about it. As well, the painting looked horrible and he took three days on it. Dean stopped him from tearing away all the pieces of the canvas, and wiped the tears from Cas' eyes, and hugged him until he stopped crying.
Dean had a few more pages left of the book.
