"Cas, what the hell happened!" Dean was waiting for him beside Cas' dorm room, eyes widened. His smile of relief before, when he first saw two figures coming down the hallway, withered.
Cas didn't say anything but stormed as he twisted the key in his lock and jiggled the door open. He slammed it behind the two Winchesters coming inside.
"Cas, what happened," Dean repeated, scared, and touched his hand on Cas' cheek, but Cas swatted it away and something like hurt flashed through Dean's eyes.
"Your dad, that's what," Cas calmed his breathing. Sam laid down on one of the beds, sighing.
Cas flopped down on one of his chairs and reached underneath his desk for the mini fridge handle, and grabbed some ice. He put it directly on his eye and it stun, bad.
Dean took the ice away and wrapped new ice in a paper towel, and gently held it on Cas' eye. This time, he didn't swat his hand away. It was over, Castiel remided himself. They were safe. Dean knelt beside Cas and sat in silence, itching with questions.
"Does this happen all the time?" Cas whispered. "That he hits you," he turns to Sam.
Sam shrugged. "Not that bad. Tonight was different."
Castiel laughed, but it was sarcastic and bitter. "What could you have possibly done to deserve that?"
"I... hadn't been home for a few days, that's all," he whispered, looking down, playing with the edge of the bed sheets. "I stayed with my friend Gabe. A six night sleepover. I didn't want to tell Dad."
Cas nodded. Dean's touch was caring, and then he moved to Sammy, and got him cleaned up. He repeated the story to Dean, and he was struck with guilt and horror.
"Cas, I'm so sorry, baby," Dean said with ache, and reached for his angel's hand.
Sammy scrunched his face. "Um. Dean, I don't know how you treat your friends but that's a little gay here on Earth."
Cas bit his lip. Oh, Dean must not have told Sam. Dean opened his mouth, then closed it.
Sam raised his eyebrows. "Dean, you're queer! I mean, hey man, I'm totally cool with it, sorry if I offended you, I just thought you--"
"Sammy, I'm bi." Dean reaffirmed, and it brought a lopsided smile to Cas' face.
"Whatever you say," Sam laughed. "Are you getting married?" He asks seriously.
Dean suddenly goes rigid, clearly taking Sammy's joke seriously. Weird.
Cas suddenly remembers something. "Hey, why couldn't you pick up Sam?"
Dean pales. "Um, I--I couldn't, busy, um--"
"You haven't told him?" Sam blurts out.
Dean gets even paler, signaling for Sammy to shut up.
"Told me what?" Cas asks slowly.
"Nothing. Nothing," Dean smiles awkwardly. "Nothing."
