"Now, to quote Revelation 20:1, 'And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit, and a great chain in his hand.'" Cas said, mumbling to himself. Only a few people ever made it to these sessions.
Castiel didn't even believe in God.
He looked up and scanned the crowd. He furrowed in surprise. "Dean?"
Dean looked up. "Oh."
Not even a hello. It stun Cas a bit. He walked off the stage and sat in the seat beside him, dismissing Church. The others left.
"What are you doing here?"
Dean... was he crying? "Are you alright?"
He turned away from Cas. Cas folded his hands in his lap, looking down awkwardly.
"I'm sorry," Cas said. "I shouldn't have said hi anyways." He stood up.
"No--don't go. Don't." Dean looked up at him.
Well, when Dean looked at Cas like that... He sat back down, still feeling unwanted.
They sat in awkward silence.
For a while. Cas would watch him occasionally, until Dean said something, but gave him some space. Clearly he was having a tough time. Cas wanted to help. He didn't like to see Dean like that.
He watched the stained glass windows, the podium, the seats, the melodic organ. It seemed pointless to Cas. He didn't carry the same faith anymore. After all, if there was a God, wouldn't the god be more helpful? Wouldn't he stop suffering?
If he was God, he would have ran things differently. But he wasn't.
Dean looked to Cas and wiped his tears. Then, without warning, he kissed him. Cas was stunned.
Then Dean sauntered off. "I'm not one for prayin', but I'll be prayin' for you..." He sang on his way out the doors.
Castiel's lips tingled.
