"There's this person in my head. She's brilliant. Capable. She can do chest tubes and craniotomies, she can run a code without freaking out. She's a really good surgeon. Maybe even a great surgeon. She's me. Only so much better. It was a good day. Maybe even a great day. I was a good doctor, even when it was hard, I was the me in my head. There was a moment when I thought I can't do this, I can't do this alone. I close my eyes and imagine myself doing it, and I did, I blocked out the fear, and I did it."
-Meredith Grey, S4E14, "The Becoming"

"The problem with being a resident is you feel crazy all the time. You haven't slept in years. You spend everyday around people in massive crisis. You lose your ability to judge what's normal, in yourself or anyone else. And yet people are constantly asking you to tell them how you're doing. How the hell are you supposed to know? You don't even know how you're doing. Don't wonder why people go crazy. Wonder why they don't. In the face of all we can lose in a day, in an instant, wonder what the hell it is that makes us hold it together."
-Meredith Grey, S4E15, "Losing My Mind"

"My mother used to say that for a surgeon, a day without death is a rare gift. Every day we face death. Every day we lose life. And every day, we're hoping for a stay of execution. We're attached to death. Chained, like prisoners. Captives."
-Meredith Grey, S4E16-S4E17, "Freedom, Part 1 & 2"

"So," Anna said, leaning against the bulletin board next to George, "You and Lexie?"

"What about Lexie?"

"Are you two really living together?"

"Yeah. It's nice to have roommates. I'm used to roommates," George shrugged.

They became quiet as Izzie, Alex, and Meredith surrounded the board and read an article with shock on their faces. They shushed each other when Cristina walked over and tried to hide in front of the board.

"Who's gonna hear about what? What is going on?"

"Nothing."

"Nothing."

"Izzie, move your hand. Oh, come on, move it. Good for him." Cristina said, eyeing the news article with Dr. Burke's accomplishments plastered all over it.

"No one wins the Harper Avery. I mean, obviously, someone wins the Harper Avery- one person once a year, but that's like no one. Burke won it. That is so weird, we know someone who won the Harper Avery." Izzie said.

The sound of a pager beeping had everyone looking down at theirs.

"Not me."

"It's me." Anna said, "It's my dad."

"Glucose check." Alex said, as they all split up for their morning rounds.

~ GREY'S ANATOMY ~

"Adele?"

"Hello, Richard, Dr. Sloan."

"Wait, your wife's the union goon?"

"Nurse mediator, Dr. Sloan. And you know Wayne Sheehan from Human Resources."

"But how did you?"

"Adele used to be a nurse. Apparently she's gotten back into the field."

"That's right, Richard. I'm not just a housewife anymore. There've been complaints about Dr. Sloan of a sexual nature, complaints which this hospital has, up until now, ignored."
