"Osu! Osu, wake up! Osupa!"
I jumped up and away from the energetic voice. I couldn't stop the shaking that took over my body.
"Please, I'm sorry, please don't hurt me," I begged quickly, keeping my voice as quiet as possible.
"Hey, Osu, it's okay, I'm not going to hurt you." I heard the voice becoming softer as they gently stroked my hair.
"Who... who are you...?" asked quietly while backing away from them.
"Who am I? Who am I? Well I'm Kate silly, remember?" The girl asked me loudly as tears swelled in my eyes. "Oh my days! This is your first time! I've got show you around and tell you about the rules and we need to go to a school and I can teach you how to dance!"
I didn't quite understand what was happening but I couldn't help the shy smile that forced its way to my face.
"I'm Kate, by the way!" The girl introduced herself, her long black hair flailing in front of her strange purple-gold eyes. She looked six, making her two years older than me, and had scars covering every part of her body. She wore an oversized, ragged and ripped shirt which looked like a dress. Over her left i was a strange lightning shaped scar, which while looked similar to the one on my forehead, I could feel was different.
"I'm Harry." I introduced myself as she tilted her head.
"I think that's the first time you've told me your real name." Kate sung as she smiled and pulled me into town.
I could feel the sharp rock digging into my bare feet but didn't say anything. I wasn't meant to complain.
"Now, the first and most important rule is never tell anyone your real name!" Kate screamed while we walked through the streets. "The second rule is never tell someone their future, even if it's your past. Rule three, do not get involved with the police, it's too hard to cover your tracks if you do, which brings us to rule four, always cover your tracks. Rule five is teach you history, battle date, monarch or rebellions, we do not want to be caught in a war. Rule six, never visit a place you have/ will be in your timeline without glamours. Rule seven, do not tell people your age, people notice things are wrong if they know your age. Rule eight, do not seek out people, if you know someone is alive in this time period, do not go looking for them, regardless of your intentions. Rule nine, never tell anyone, but me, or someone in your timeline, about the abuse. Our injuries heal and if someone finds out they tend to try finding who did it, which causes more problems than it solves. And finally, rule ten, no spoilers, do not talk about any adventures we go on through time, it can cause a lot of problems!" Kate finished as I tried to remember all the rules.
"Who came up with these?" I asked quietly as she shrugged.
"Beethoven's fifth." She stated nonchalantly as I tilted my head.
"Beethoven's fifth?" I asked her confused to what classical music had to do with this.
"It's a paradox, someone who loved Beethoven gets themselves a time machine and travels back in time to meet him. However when they arrive they realise there is no Beethoven. Refusing to let Beethoven not exist they go down to the records office and publish the music themselves, becoming Beethoven. Now, who wrote Beethoven's fifth?"
I gave her a confused look as she giggled. "It's like our names, I know you as Osupa and you will know me as Kate because that is what we are used to, neither of us choose the names but we use them. There are a lot of examples of these but if I told you about them, which rule would I break?" She sung while holding onto my arm.
"Rule 10." I muttered quietly fearing her reaction if i got the question wrong.
Suddenly, she tackled me into a hug while cheering happily.
