Unforgivable

I sat in class staring owlishly as Professor Moody wrote his name on the board. “Now, I believe in a more practical approach to learning the dark arts.” He stated as I felt a pit build in my stomach. I couldn't help but freeze. Dark art were already dangerous, they were harsh and hurtful, and he was going to show them to us.

“Now, who can tell me why the unforgivable curses are called so?” He asked us as he looked over us, his eyes flaring with dangerous intent. “Ganger?”

“Because they’re unforgivable. The use of any one of them-” Mione answered as Moody finished the statement rudely.

“Will give you a one way ticket to Azkaban.” He wrote harshly on the board, his chalk cracking under the force. He turned around quickly and looked over the class. “Who can name one for me? Mr Weasley.”

“I heard about one, the Imperius curse,” Ron answered shyly as Moody licked the edge of his mouth.

“Ah yes, you would know about that. Gave your father a great it of deal back in the day.” Moody turned to pick up a spider as he finished, “Let me show you why, engorgio. Imperio.”

The spider grew bigger before being lifted up from Moody’s hand. He flew the poor creature around the room while terriosing students. Most laughed at the ‘funny’ scene but I only watched, silently stirring beneath my skin. I couldn’t help but feel bad for the spider who didn’t know what or why this was happening.

When the spider landed on Ron’s face I gently lifted her off and let her stand on my hand.

I tilted my head to look at her, I could see how afraid she was as I stroked her back calmly.

When Moody lifted her up, I wanted to stop him but I resisted the urge as I knew better than going against an adult.

“Now, some wizards claimed to only do you-knows-who bidding under the effects of the imperious curse. But how do we tell the lies from the truth? Longbottom! Come up.” Moody ordered as Neville shakenly stood up. “Now Professor Sprout tells me you have a knack for Herbology.”

Neville nodded before deciding to name the curse plaguing his mind. “There’s the Cruciatus curse.”

“Yes, the torcher curse.” Moody turned to face the spider as Neville watched from the side. “Crucio.”

Instantly, the spider screamed in pain. I started to shake in fear as I tried to look away from her. Neville himself wasn’t faring any better as Moine noticed our discomfort. “Stop it! Stop it! Can’t you see it’s bothering them?! Stop it!”

Moody stopped the curse as he walked towards Moine. “I suppose you care to tell me the final curse?”

Moine shook her head as Moody turned back to the spider. “Avada Kedavra.”

The spider let out a screech before she stopped moving. I closed my eyes as I looked away, not wanting to see the corpse of the innocent creature.

“The killing curse, only one has ever been known to survive it and he’s sitting in this room.”

I quickly walked out of the class as Ron and Moine ran after me.

“There is a reason those curses are unforgivable. To perform them in a classroom.” Moine spoke angrily as she walked up to up. “Did you see Neville’s face?”

“Forget Neville, are you alright? You seemed pretty upset with those curses.” Ron asked me as he put his hand on my shoulder.

I smiled weakly at him as I nodded. “I think so…” Just brought back bad memories.

I was going to say something else when I spotted Neville. I couldn’t help but feel bad for him, after what his parents went through. “Neville,” I called as I put my hand on his shoulder. “You alright?”

Neville nodded as he stood and I retracted my arm.

“Longbottom.” Moody called as he came up to us. “How about we have some tea, yeah?”

Moody quickly lead Neville away as we continued to our next class, what a strange teacher.

I silently watched the night sky, unable to sleep yet again. It was so peaceful. I wanted nothing more than to go for a fly. It’s been so long since I’ve flown around the night sky.

Usually, when I went into my animagus forms, I became a cat. It’s easier to blend in that way. But right now, all I wanted was to stretch my wings properly.

Sighing, I looked around the room before gently opening the window. I turned into my phoenix form as I escaped the tall tower.

The wind was gentle and cold. The sky untainted. The area silent. It was perfect. I flow over the lake and above the trees of the forbidden forest; smiling all the way.

“Help is someone there?” A small French girl asked quietly; desperation clear in her voice.

Lowering myself, I spotted Fleur’s younger sister walking about the forest floor.

Not wanting her to get hurt, I changed into my cat form as I walked towards her.

“Hello?” She called as I jumped out of a bush and rubbed against her leg. “Are you lost too?” I shook my head as she gasped loudly. “You understand me?” She asked as I nodded again and meowed. “Do you know the way back to Hogwarts?”

I nodded as I rubbed against her leg and walked towards Hogwarts, turning to look at her when she didn’t follow.

I meowed as she slowly followed behind me. I walked slowly, stopping occasionally so she could keep up.

I led her to the Hogwarts gates as she looked at me. “Thank you, do you want to come in?” She asked me as I shook my head.

I rubbed against her one last time before leaving and turning into my phoenix form once again.

I easily glided into my room as I turned back and stumbled a little. For once, I felt tired as I collapsed in bed and fell asleep.
