Golden Egg

I collapsed down on my bed with the golden egg thrown on to my pillow. I still hadn't worked out what the clue was! It starts tomorrow, I have to work it out. But I have read through every book I could find on gold eggs and searched every memory. There was nothing.

"You alright Harry?"

I jumped up at Ron's voice before smiling up at him. "Yep! I think I might go for a walk though. Clear my head ready for tomorrow." I sat up and gave Ron a quick kiss on his cheek causing him a blush before running out the door. I may not have told him that I had yet to work out the clue.

I could see Kate talking to the twins which is going to be dangerous. I fear for whoever get on their bad side.

I walked down to the black lake, which was quickly becoming my favourite place to go and sat down despite the biting cold.

I jumped a little when someone wrapped a scarf around me. "You shouldn't be out here Harry. You'll catch your death in this cold."

I turned to look at Cedric, pouting a little but enjoying the warmth of his scarf nonetheless. "Maybe then I won't have to compete."

"Listen, I never thanked you properly, for tipping me off about the dragons."

"It's fine, you would have done the same."

"Exactly. Have you ever been to the prefect's bathroom? It's not a bad place for a bath. Maybe you should take your egg and mole things over in the water." Cedric started to back up, confusing me.

What on earth was that?!

Deciding to take off Cedric's scarf, I pushed it to the bottom of my bag to worry about later.

May as well try taking the egg to the bathroom.

I dropped my bag off in my dorm and left for the bathroom. I was weirdly big and almost seemed like a pool rather than a bath.

I must be losing it. Reaching out I tried opening the egg but it just screamed at me and so I closed it. Yep, completely mental.

"I'd try putting it in the water." I jumped at Myrtle's voice echoing around the bathroom.

"Myrtle?"

"I was swimming around the drains the other day when I came across a blocked pipe and I swear I could have detected a bit of poly juice potion. Not been a bad boy have you, Harry?"

"Sorry, Myrtle? Did you say try putting it in the water?" I quickly picked the egg, balancing it in my arm.

Myrtle jumped up and dived into the water and swam up to my side. "That's what the other boy did. The handsome one, Cedric."

I swam a little away from her before pushing my egg into the water, turning the lock and opening it.

A soft melody came out as I took a deep breath before ducking down and listening to them sing.

"Come seek us where our voices sound,

We cannot sing above the ground,

And while you're searching, ponder this;

We've taken what you'll sorely miss,

An hour long you'll have to look,

And recover what we took,

But past an hour — the prospect's black,

Too late, it's gone, it won't come back."

I pulled myself out the water, taking heavy breaths as I tried to get the oxygen back in my system. "Myrtle, are there merpeople in the black lake?"

"Very good Harry, it took Cedric forever to riddle it out. Almost all the bubbles were gone."

Tiredly, I banged my head against the table. "Come seek us where our voices sound."

"The black lake, that bit is obvious," Moine analysed.

"An hour long you'll have to look."

"Don't hit your head," Ron told me softly. Removing the book from under my head and letting me lean against his shoulder as he ran his fingers through my hair.

"Once again that's obvious, though a little problematic," Mione said before leaning against the desk.

"A little problematic?! When was the last time you had to hold your breath for an hour?"

"183," Kate popped up to my side, slamming a book on the table.

"What?" Moine jumped back as Kate smirked.

"183, that was the last time I had to hold my breath for an hour. Well, technically one hour thirty two minutes, but the point is the same," Kate explained with a laugh, remembering something I had yet to live through. Well at least I must live past this point.

"How'd you do that?" Ron attempted to look at the book but got his hand slapped away.

"Scuba gear. But we don't have time to get that so we must find another way."

"So helpful."

"Ganger, Weasley, the headmaster wishes to see you." We all jumped at Moody's sudden appearance.

"With all due respect, professor, the second challenge is only a couple of hours away," Moine started to defend but was interrupted by Moody.

"And I am sure Mr Potter is well prepared by this point and could do with a good night's sleep."

Moine gave me a sad look before leaving. Ron gave me a kiss before being shooed out by Moody.

"Mr Longbottom, help Mr Potter clear away with books."

Neville started helping Kate and I clear up the books, talking about one plant or another.

"Neville, listen, while this is all fascinating, unless there is a Tibetan Turnip that lets me breath underwater for an hour, I couldn't care less right now," I snapped at him, instantly feeling bad.

"I don't know about a Turnip, but you can always use gillyweed."

~Ron POV~

I grumbled as I walked down the path. Tomorrow was the second challenge and Dumbledore has dragged me away from Harry. I should be there helping him, making him feel calm. He shouldn't have to do this alone when I am here.

"Ah, you are here," Dumbledore exclaimed while motioning us in. The french one's sisters were here and so was Cho.

"What is going on, Professor?" Moine stood in front of me, angry beyond belief.

"I am most sorry for what is about to happen." Dumbledore motioned for the Minister to cast the spell.

Dark spots covered my vision and I felt my body grow heavy.
