One last day

I smiled as I curled around the giggling Ron, purring happily.

The war was going to end soon, or more specifically, tonight as Lord Voldemort is vanquished.

Honestly, that thought made me a little sad as I was very close to Tom in his Hogwarts years. He had been very kind to me and I saw him as a brother. I wasn’t sure what caused him to go bad, but I knew there wasn’t much point in thinking about it.

I wondered how much longer I had here, I usually got a few years, five on a partially bad day, but, as I could not remember being driven so close to death, I had no idea how much longer I had.

I wished to grow up beside Ron and protect him, even if I knew he was safe.

I let out a small sigh as my ears laid flat against my head.

I heard footsteps entering the room as Molly came in carrying Fred and George.

Arthur, who was carrying baby Ginny, collapsed on the sofa as he sighed heavily. A few weeks ago he was forced into hiding but what little money this family had left was running out quickly.

Bill and Charlie entered the room as they sat down. Charlie picked me up as he stroked my fur.

The second I was out his arms, Ron started crying as Bill quickly picked him up and put him on his lap. I watched the small child as I rubbed my head against his cheek.

I couldn’t help but smile when Ron stopped crying and started laughing.

Molly and Arthur watched us with faint smiles on their lips. Molly slowly laid her head on Arthur’s shoulder, who was playing with his children happily.

I knew tonight an old friend of the family was coming to hide with us, which I found a little pointless but I wasn’t going to say anything.

I did however, hiss the second the fireplace came alive. Green flames rose up as I curled protectively around Ron.

As quickly as the fire started, it stopped while three people stepped out and into our living room.

Arthur moved Ginny to a more secure hold as he stood up to greet his friends.

One was a tall woman with short brown hair and teal green eyes. She wore her robes which were long and covered most of her body.

By her side a smaller, but still tall man stood. He had neat black hair which laid perfectly on his head. He had dark brown eyes and freckles covering his face. He wore a pair of thin rectangle glasses which laid neatly on his nose.

Finally, in front of the adults, a small boy stood. He looked around the same age as Bill, possibly a year younger. He had brown hair which had been combed carefully. He had brown eyes which were hiding behind large round glasses that reminded me of the pair I used to wear. His cheeks and nose was covered in freckles blemishing his face perfectly. Over all, he seemed like a sweet and innocent boy, so I stopped my hissing and relaxed.

“Jacob, Brenda, it’s good to see you,” Arthur stated as he looked at the small child in front of them. “And you must be Elijah, I haven’t seen you since you were barely a month old. Oh, how time has passed.”

Elijah seemed uncomfortable with Arthur’s attention as he blushed.

“It is good to see you too, Arthur. I see your family has expanded quite a bit. However, I’m sure you had another,” Jacob said as Percy came downstairs.

“Ah, there he is, well why don’t we all introduce ourselves, I’m sure the children would appreciate it,” Brenda said while smiling kindly. “I am Brenda Maelstrom, this is my husband, Jacob, and our son, Elijah.”

“Well, I am Arthur Weasley and this is my wife Molly,” Arthur introduced with a goofy grin plastered on his face. “Our eldest son is Bill here. Then it’s Charlie, Percy, Fred and George, Ron and this little one is Ginny.” Arthur pointed to everyone in turn as I meowed.

“This is Moon, our cat.” Charlie picked me up to show me to the new people as I purred.

“Cool,” Elijah awed as he petted me.

“Now, how about you children get acquainted while we talk in the other room?” Arthur suggested as he motioned to leave.

Molly placed Fred and George on the floor before following, Arthur giving Ginny to Charlie.

“So, Elijah, how old are you?” Bill asked as Elijah sat on the sofa while petting me.

“I’m nine…” Elijah mumbled quietly as Bill smiled.

“Cool, I’m ten. I’ll be eleven next month!” He explained as Elijah nodded.

“That means you’ll be a year above me at Hogwarts,” Elijah stated while Bill nodded.

“And Charlie will be a year below you. Which house do you want to be in?” Bill asked as Elijah thought of his answer.

“I think I’ll like Hufflepuff,” he answered honestly as I purred at his answer. “You?”

“I’ll be a Gryffindor. All my family is!” Bill announced loudly while smiling proudly.

Elijah looked like he was going to say something when the room erupted and shook.

Instantly, Ron and Ginny started crying as Fred and George ran to our sides.

“What was that?!” Charlie asked in a panicked scream as I jumped off Elijah’s lap to look outside.

Death eaters were circling the house, probably here for Elijah and his family.

Not knowing what else to do, I ran back to the children as I tried to calm Ron and Ginny down.

The adults ran in as they told us to go upstairs.

Before we could follow their order, Death Eaters attacked the house as dust and wooden splinters fell on top of us.

They knew sending us upstairs presented more problems and they knew we couldn’t go outside.

We had nowhere to go.

Gold.

Panic engulfed me as I spotted the familiar gold light covering the tips of my paws. I felt the usual tug pull me away.

No! I couldn’t leave; not now; not yet. I couldn’t leave them here to die!

I gritted my teeth as I jumped off the sofa and ran outside. I could hear Charlie calling my name but I didn’t have time.

As I ran out the door, I changed into my human form as I screamed the spell, “cum omnis pondo unciam ex mihi, protego haec iocum, a nunc usque aeternum!”

A deep blue light surrounded me before exploding out knocking away the death eaters.

I felt exhaustion filling me as I swayed slightly.

The gold lights were covering the majority of me as I hazily turned to face my family.

“Who are you?” Arthur gasped at me as he forced out the question.

I smiled weakly at them as I spoke, “I don’t really know, but, I’m glad you saved me.”

I couldn’t see my family any more as the black dots covering my vision expanded and I collapsed, falling once again.
