As far as you could tell, no one else knew about your panic attacks in the bathroom. No one was looking at you or whispering about you and you didn't get any talks from the teachers like you did when you first arrived back.
So then did someone just hear you crying in the bathroom, comfort you because it was the decent and humane thing to do and then move one with their lives?
You could only hope...
But then why did they ask if you could remember them? If you knew them?
Thinking back, you couldn't even remember if the voice belonged to a girl or boy, you just assumed it was a girl because it was a girls' bathroom but it could have easily been a boy.
But would a typical boy really be so bothered as to tell the entire school? On the other hand, what kind of typical boy enters the girls restroom?
You chewed on your pen, deep in thought, should you go back to the washroom and wait? Maybe whoever saw you before would follow you this time as well?
But what could you possibly gain from knowing who it was? There is no guarantee that they could keep your secret, especially if it was someone like Allison who would probably ask for something in return.
But they said they knew you, and you were apparently supposed to know them.
Who was that person....?
"Penny for your thoughts?" Asked Cherry as she nudged your shoulder with hers. You smiled softly at her, "My thoughts aren't really worth that much."
"They are to me." Was her answer without a second thought and her eyes turned soft when they met yours.
A small chuckle slipped past your lips and you turned to hug her, "God, I missed you."
Her arms wrapped tightly around you, "I missed you too. I'm glad you're back."
It's the sincerity in her voice that made you feel happiness bubble inside you and you pulled back with a wide grin mirroring her own.
"Are you sure you don't want us to stay back with you?" Cherry asked as she grabbed her books from her locker.
You nodded, "It's gonna be a while before I finish all my pending work and I'd probably get it done faster without you here to distract me." You teased, pinching her lightly and she laughed.
"Call me when you get home." She said before waving goodbye.
"Will do."
You watched Cherry walk away before inconspicuously going into the restroom. You had to find a clue, something, anything, that might help you identify who it was that was watching you.
"If it's me your looking for then I'm afraid you might not find anything."
Clutching your heart, you turned around to face....absolutely no one.
With your heart thundering in your chest, you looked around, opening every stall door before finding that you were alone.
"Hello?"
"Hello."
You realized that you didn't know this person. You had never heard a voice like that, that was sweet but stern and was airy but still had support.
You spun around, again meeting nobody.
"Seriously, who's there?"
"Me."
You practically snorted.
"Yes, very informative, I meant what's you name? And why can't I see you?"
Your nerves were on edge and all your senses were heightened. The fact that you couldn't see anybody and you knew that there was no other person in the bathroom
"Oh you can see me alright, you're just not looking in the correct place."
"Uh-huh, yeah, and where would the correct place be?"
"Look around you."
Terrified, you spun, only to see a sight you knew all too well.
A snake of water, clear as crystal, was sitting there calmly, waiting for you to recognize it. You gasped, stumbling back and watching it fall to the ground as a puddle of water before re-emerging from the taps, slithering out to sit itself in the sink.
"Wha-What....H-How.." You were at a complete loss for words.
"I can only answer a question if you can finish asking it."
"You're a snake? Who can talk?"
"No, I'm the water, who can only talk to you."
"But water can't talk." You responded with wide eyes. Surely this must be some sort of dream because what you were seeing and hearing was beyond bizzare.
"And yet here we are."
An exasperated laugh left your mouth and you ran your hands through your hair, "I'm crazy. I knew it."
