It's hard to be a girl!
From birth, we're taught,
How to be a proper lady. What to do and what not.
Comb your hair properly.
Cross your legs while sitting.
Always stay calm and orderly.
Do all this and don't worry-you'll fit in.
Dresses not too short or tight.
Coz if it is and you get raped,
you deserve it, don't put up a fight.
My self-worth that of a sex toy,
Meant only for the pleasure of a boy.
Whenever I try and succeed,
its only because of my breasts, pay no heed.
My personality is worth nothing.
My brain, my goodness, myself are of no importance.
Because its enough if I get a good husband and behave like a dunce.
Doesn't matter if my coat's pulled up high,
Because when I reach home safely, I give out a sigh.
80 year old grandmas or new born babies,
Your mothers, sisters, cousins and daughters,
they're the ones that don't need to be protected but need to be taught,
That they're so much more than just pretty or hot.

This is a topic very very close to my heart. I was inspired to write this after I heard Aranya Johar's 'A Brown Girl's Guide to Gender' which is brilliant if you ask me.I know many of you may not relate, but it is a major problem and it is happening. Women are still regarded as objects. And no matter how much we succeed, there's still people insinuating that its only because we slept with 'so and so'.
IT HAS GOT TO STOP.
And men, we know all of you aren't like this. There are so many men who are kind and sweet, but some characters of your gender give us a bad impression.
Love,
