Oh Beauty! Oh fickle queen! Started off as a thing of joy and love, An offshoot of Aphrodite, the lady of the dove. But they've spoiled and besmirched your name. Regular mortals cannot achieve you, or so they claim.
Oh Beauty! Oh fickle queen! They say it's all about the body and the face, They've turned the quest to find you into a race. You're no longer a pilgrimage, a sacred place. They've spoiled your shrine with horrid notions of attractiveness. And hundreds of people lay dead outside the doors, caught in the untruthful mess.
Oh Beauty! Oh fickle queen! I wonder what you'll say to those who dictate us? Would you yell, scream and kick up a fuss? Or would you quietly accept it, Like all us people of the world, without a fit?
Would you agree to every demand for us to be something we're not? Or would you tell them to take their fairness creams and go rot? Would you tell the world to be exactly who they are? I wonder, if you did, would we accept every blemish, spot and mar.
Oh Beauty! Oh fickle queen! Tell me if finding you, Was the only thing I was meant to do. ---------------------
So this poem was inspired by all the people of the beauty industry who give us the feeling that we have to be a certain way, we have to look like that and behave like this for us to be classified as beautiful.
I don't think Beauty would like that. Beauty is internal. It's the kindness in your words, the warmth in your eyes, the compassion in your smile. It's the story behind every scar and the unruliness of your hair.
It's not 5 feet 8 inches. It's not an hourglass figure. It's not glossy hair. It's not a made up face. It's who you are- as a person.
