(i)
We've stopped and watched the awful news
Sat tight at home and conformed to societal cues
People dying here and there for the colour of their skin
Their families protesting- why a hopeless battle to win?
(ii)
Rest in peace Eric Garner who was choked by a man supposed to be protecting him.
He had a life and a family but was killed on a whim
(iii)
Rest in peace Tamir Rice,
Who held a toy gun and paid the price.
Twelve years old, gone so fast
Already 6 years past.
(iv)
Rest in peace Laquan McDonald,
Killed for holding a knife.
Why is that a reason for taking a seventeen year old's life?
(v)
Rest in peace Stephon Clark,
Who's phone was mistook for a gun in the dark.
Tell me if the darkness prevailed in the night,
Or in the officer's mind who people still think is right.
(vi)
Rest in peace Botham Jean,
His own house his murder scene
Because eating and sleeping can make you a target if you're black.
And each day we see the justice system lack.
(vii)
Rest in peace Kenney Watkins and Redel Jones,
Who were shot through their hearts and bones.
(viii)
Rest in peace Michelle Shirley and Ezell Ford.
In life, faced mental demons and in death, just more names on the board.
(ix)
Rest in peace Michael Brown,
Who was oppressed long before he was shot down.
(x)
Rest in peace Travyon Martin,
Your death a sorrowful parting.
A society that wouldn't let you be
And now your killer's walking scot free.
(xi)
Rest in peace Breonna Taylor,
Who was killed on her own bed.
Except her skin colour, why would anyone ever want her dead?
(xii)
Rest in peace George Floyd,
Who was choked to his painful death.
And who had to protest for his last, dying breath.
(xiii)
Rest in peace brothers and sisters everywhere.
The ones we know and the ones we don't.
We will never forget you.
And buckle under the oppression we won't.
(xiv)
We miss you and promise you we won't forget your names,
Which'll stay on our lips until the supremacists stop playing their games.
And until the end,
This I swear I will defend.

I cannot begin to tell you how much the video of George Floyd affected me. Violence against the African-American community has been happening for so long. These are just a small list of names of people who have been killed- because of the colour of their skin. It is appalling and heartbreaking that such things can happen.
The saddest part was I had to actually choose a site which provided a smaller list because the official list was stretching into the hundreds and that was so depressing.
WE CANNOT LIVE LIKE THIS ANYMORE! VIOLENCE AGAINST PEOPLE SOLELY BASED ON THEIR RACE, RELIGION, GENDER, SEXUALITY MUST BE STOPPED! THIS CANNOT GO ON!
I know I am not American and I know people are going to come at me for writing this. But guess what? I don't see this as an issue of one country. Because if you are hurting a human being, depraving them of their rights, you are hurting us all.
#BlackLivesMatter.

PS: In case you still don't care:
let me put this in perspective:
THESE ARE JUST THE PEOPLE MENTIONED IN THIS POEM. NOW ADD HUNDREDS MORE. LOOK AT THOSE FACES AND TELL ME YOU CAN SUPPORT THEIR BRUTAL MURDERS.
