A:N) Before you read this chapter let me just state by saying this is pretty much just a chapter about Jessica's serious side. I tried throwing in some of her naturally awkwardness (lord knows she has enough to spare) to lighten up the mood a bit. It kind shows a more artsy, complex Jessica that you haven't really had a chance to see yet. At the beginning I had totally different plans but I thought that maybe you needed to see more of Jessica and her true feelings about the world before we continue with the story. Enjoy my lovely's.
Chapter 11
Thunderstorm and Dreams
Jessica’s and Britt’s Flat
***Jessica’s POV***
Thunderstorms always held a sort of beauty towards me. Whether it was the way the lightning could light up the sky with just one strike or the way the thunder could shake houses hundreds of miles away I didn’t really know. Call it the starving artist coming out in me, either way I couldn’t help but be flawed by the beauty that took place behind the thin glass of the window.
A cold hand latched onto my arm making me jump in surprise. I looked at Brittney who stared at me with a questioning look. Her face was a paler than usual as if she had just woke up from a bad dream; her cold hands were clammy, as if she had been sweating. I didn’t say a word as she stared at me, just watched her movements in the dark carefully as she sat down on the floor.
“Britt?” I half whispered, almost flinching as the loud rain pelted on the glass windows behind me. “Are you okay?”
She looked up at me once again, her wide brown eyes penetrating my hazel ones in half shock and half fear. Saying nothing she just looked at the ground as her body began to shake.
“What’s happening to you?”
This time, she raised her head at my words, opening her mouth as she began to say something but in the end nothing came out. “I’ll go make some tea…”
With sudden force I never knew she had, Brittney latched on to my arm, silently begging me not to leave with her eyes. I pulled her into a hug, begging her in my mind to tell me what was bothering to the point she was shaking in tears.
After a few minutes of silence Brittney opened her mouth to speak, sniffing as she did. “I’m fine now Meeks…”
I looked at my best friend, almost unsure of what to believe at that moment. “What happened?”
She shook her head in protest, swallowing once, no, twice before answering my plea. “Dream. Well, nightmare. Unlike any I’ve had before. I can barely remember it but I remember a lot of screaming, when I woke up I ran into your room and when I saw you weren’t there… I don’t know. I guess I thought the dream came into reality.”
“Brittney its fine, I’m here.” I gave her one last squeeze before letting go, smiling at her now calm form.
Brittney stayed in the same place, as I got up I could feel her eyes watch me walk toward the window. “I’ll never understand you obsession for thunderstorms…”
I turned towards Brittney, smiling at her as she shook her head at me, before turning back to face the storm again. “There is beauty in destruction Brittney. The worst things can bloom the happiest… it just takes time.”
A loud snore came from behind me causing me to turn around and face my now asleep friend. Well so much for our heart to heart, I thought as I stepped over Brittney’s sleeping from.
I decided now was the proper time to go to bed, happy thoughts meant happy dreams, or at least that was what I had always been told. With one last look at the rain and lightning outside I slipped into my room, pulling the duvet over my head. I soon fell asleep to the sounds of the rain and thunder outside.
