Chapter 8

Riley’s POV

Everyone is allowed to have a bad day. If so my bad day was Monday. It wasn’t our usual bad day where you fight with your best friend but then make up the next day or you forget your homework. My Monday was so much worse.

Thomas and I didn’t talk over the weekend. I was completely fine with that. He did call me a slut in front of the whole team. I wasn’t embarrassed by that, just annoyed. I guess I have always assumed that he supported me and would always be there for me but now he isn’t and it feels weird.

It also feels weird that Luke isn’t around. He has lived with us since he was 14 and spent most of his time with us before that. I went and saw him on Saturday and we spent the day around in town together. Thomas spent to whole weekend in his room.

The first person I saw was Kelsey. That was a bad start to the day.

‘Hey it’s the slut’ she teased.

‘I could say the same to you’ I responded.

‘I heard that you and your brother are fighting. I’m guessing that is because he found out you are a slut’

‘No, it actually because I found out that he is different’

‘You found out that not all people use the people as toys’ she teased.

I didn’t say anything.

‘Surprised that I know the truth? You are a bitch of course you are like that’ she snapped.

‘That’s not true’

‘Well I can’t say much about what you look like. You look fat and your features are boring. I have no idea why anyone would like to date to you’ she said and walked away.

I stood there for a minute and thought about what she said. Was it true? I tried not to believe it but it is hard. It felt like someone had stabbed me in the chest. Once someone had suggested something it is hard to think of anything else. I headed to maths trying to think of other thinks.

‘Hey’ Brent said as I walked in. He was already seated at his desk. I slide into my seat, the one next to his.

‘How was your weekend?’ I asked.

‘I had to go to some dance competition that my sister was in’ he moaned.

Brent’s sister is a sophomore. Her name is Amelia. She is a really good dancer and dances for one of the local team. I think they have qualified for Nationals that is sometime early next year. As it is already half-way through November that isn’t very far away. I met her after some game and she seems like a really nice girl. She has blonde hair and blue eyes so she looks nothing like Brent. She is kind of popular and has enough friends to be happy.
