"Jared, this is....." I was searching for the words. This is horrible? This is boring? This is time-wasting? "It's great."

"I'm glad you're here, Dax," he smiled. Where else would I be? Not at a hockey game with my best friends actually enjoying myself or anything....

"Where else would I be?" I teased. I didn't add the sarcastic part about being at a hockey game. He smiled again.

"True, true," he laughed. "How was work today?"

"It was good," I nodded. I almost kissed my ex, I wanted to kiss my ex, if I weren't so proud I probably would've kissed my ex.

"Good. I'm glad. How's Milan doing?" he asked. I didn't understand why he cared.

"Got his nose broken, but he's alright. Pretty sure the other kid broke his...well, everything," I laughed. "He got his ass handed to him."

"Good."

"Yeah. Jared, excuse me for a minute?" I asked, my pulse racing. He nodded and unlaced his arm from around my waist. I walked to the bathroom carefully and quickly, trying not to trip on my dress. I entered the bathroom and found I was alone; I locked the door. I grabbed my phone out of my bra quickly and shakily.

"Hey, it's Milan. I can't answer the phone right now, but I'll get back to you later."

*beep*

"Hey. So I remember talking to you earlier, and you said that it was almost parallel to when we first met and it made me think...you know what," I stopped. "Never mind what it made me think. I just needed an excuse to get out of this stuffy appreciation ball and I meant to call Pat, but I called you. So...so yeah, Looch. I'll see you tomorrow. And don't pick at your stitches. Bye."

I hung up and kicked myself, yet again. What the hell was I doing to myself? What the hell was I doing to Looch? I was a bitch. I was a downright bitch. I sighed and splashed my face with water. Everything had been alright. Now it was...well, now it was still alright, just not alright alright. I left the bathroom and sought out Jared. He was talking to an older man. I went over and he laced his arm around my waist.

"General, this is my wonderful girlfriend Dakota Miller. Dax, this is General Trenton," he introduced. I shook the man's hand and smiled.

"Lovely to meet you," I smiled.

"So, Ms. Miller, what do you do for a living?" he asked. Ughhhhh.

"I'm the athletic trainer for the Boston Bruins," I smiled. He raised an eyebrow.

"How long have you been doing that?"

"I've been there since I was 18," I replied. "I'm 25 now. It's been seven years."

"That's a long time," he laughed. I nodded.

"It is. It's a really long time. It's a lot of faces, a lot of injuries. But it's worth all of it," I admitted.

"You don't seem like a hockey type of girl," he remarked. There was a connotation of superiority in his voice.

"I could skate before I walked," I shot back nonchalantly. "I grew up watching and playing. I was no good, of course, but I love the game."

Jared smiled proudly next to me.

"Hockey is a great game," he agreed. "The bond the teams have are incredible. Are they really that close? As close as they seem?"

"Even closer," I smiled. "These guys...they're brothers. It's really hard on everyone when someone leaves. But we're a family."

Whatever his name was looked taken aback.

"Well, she's quite the young lady, SS Booth," he smiled. He nodded.

"Yes she is, General."

"Well it was good to meet you, General," I smiled cockily. Ha. That shut him up. Jared laughed as he walked away.

"You are so aggressive," he rolled his eyes. He kissed my forehead, and I almost shied away. But I didn't.

"Well when I said I liked hockey, and God forbid a woman like hockey, he looked at me like a piece of meat! 'Course I'm gonna defend myself," I scoffed. He laughed and glanced at his watch.

"What do you say," he kissed my cheek, "we get going? It's close to 2am and it's gonna be an hour home. Plus I promised Pat," don't cALL HIM PAT, "I'd have you home before four."

"Sounds good," I smiled. He snaked his arm around my waist and we left.

"You're so aggressive," he laughed again, and he got into the drivers side.

"Jared, I'll drive if you want," I told him. He shook his head.

"No, it's alright."
