In October 1943, Romano switched sides and joined the Allies. Despite Romano's best efforts to protect his brother from Germany's influence, Italy (Veneziano) remained with Germany until 1945.
(Italy did switch sides during the war, but only southern Italy--Germany turned northern Italy into a puppet state.)
