When he does, he incorporates Pagan traditions, such as Careto, and has taken some influence from his former colony, Brazil.
(Carnival is a Pre-Lenten celebration in Christianity. It's widely celebrated in Portugal. Some Portuguese communities incorporate Pagan traditions like Careto, and Portuguese celebrations have adopted some aspects of Brazilian Carnival celebrations.)
