Cora and her parents walked through the steaming hot dining room. It smelled of fresh bread, and garbage. Cora's stomach rumbled. She hadn't eaten since 7 a.m, an hour before they had left to catch the Titanic. Now it was close to 2 o'clock and Cora could eat practically anything!
She followed her daddy to a long table with menus laying on them. Cora pulled the big wood chair, and sat down. The table went up to her chest, she felt as big as can be sitting up there. Cora couldn't wait to finish eating, so she could go draw with Jack again.
Cora looked at the menu. There were many yummy items on it, but she finally decided to have boiled potatoes with bread, and a glass of milk to drink.
In no time, the waiter brought the food. The first bite made Cora almost tingle inside. She had never tasted food as good in her life. The potatoes were the best Cora had ever eaten, so was the fresh warm bread, with the dripping yellow butter. The milk was cold and satisfied Cora's dry throat.
In no time at all, all the food was eaten, and the waiter gathered up the plates. Cora jumped down from the table and began running to Jack's room.
"Cora, wait, darling!" Her mother called after her. Cora obeyed her mom, and slowed down, but she was still bouncing off the walls.
"She's going to see her new friend Jack!" Daddy said to Mama laughing.
"Oh, alright! Run along Cora!" Mama said.
Cora began to run again but then mama called out again
"Cora, take your coat off, and put your shawl on, it's still a bit chilly! I don't want you getting your only coat dirty!"
Cora sighed and ran to her room. She slid under her bunk, grabbed her shawl and tied it around her shoulders.
She ran next door to Jack's room and knocked on the door. Fabrizio answered.
"Jack, your best girl is here." He said.
Cora giggled, and so did Jack.
Cora was Jack's best girl!
"Want to go to the General room to draw, Cora? There's more light there." Jack asked.
"Ok." Cora said. She took Jack's hand and went with him. She saw her Mama and Daddy in their room, so she smiled and waved at them, and so did Jack. Cora giggled again. Jack was her new best friend. She was his best girl, of course.
"We are going to draw in the general room." Cora said.
"Have fun!" Mama said.
Jack began to walk again and Cora skipped her way down.
"What would you like to draw?" Jack asked her.
"I don't know." Cora said, then she added "maybe the rain."
"I have an idea!" Jack said. "What about if we draw god crying, since that's what most people say rain comes from."
Cora smiled. She thought that was a great idea. "Yes!" She said.
Suddenly the huge sound of the general room hit them. There were all kinds of people talking, laughing, and screaming, all in different languages. Cora didn't understand anyone, except for Jack of course.
"There's an open bench over there." Jack said. She followed him, and gripped his hand tighter. Cora wouldn't admit it, but she was a bit scared. She was glad that she had Jack with her.
They found an empty bench, and Cora sat on Jack's lap. She watched him draw the outline of god. Cora would then color it in, and draw the rain. She was amazed at how good Jack could draw people.
Jack finished drawing God, and she began to color the hair. She pressed ever so lightly on the pencil, afraid of breaking it.
"You can press harder!" Jack laughed.
Cora smiled and pressed harder. She had never drawn with finer tools before.
When she had finished, Jack started drawing some clouds, and Cora said to him; "Am I really your best girl Jack?"
Jack laughed. "Yes Cora, you are."
Cora smiled.
"Forever and ever?" She asked again.
"Yes of course Cora!" He laughed.
Cora smiled again.
When they had finished drawing, Cora asked Jack if they could go for a walk up on deck.
"Sure!" Jack said.
She held his hand as they walked up the narrow staircase.
"Jack, who was that lady you were looking at yesterday? She had beautiful red hair and a yellow dress." Cora said.
"Some first class lady." Jack said.
"Do you like her?" Cora asked.
"No." Jack answered flatly. She thought he was lying! Cora giggled inside.
"When is supper?" Cora asked, hearing her stomach growl. "I'm getting hungry."
Jack laughed. "Me too." He said. "Let's go into the dining room, your Daddy and Mama should be there by now."
Cora was glad. She was glad to be going to supper, and was glad Jack was going with her!
