There will be a party, later today." Daddy said.
A party! Cora had been to a party once , a long time ago. She couldn't wait until evening!
"Will you be going?" Mama asked Fabrizio and Jack.
"I will be going." Fabrizio said. "But Jack is going to have supper with the rich people tonight." He said laughing. So did Jack, Mama and Daddy.
Cora's face fell. She was looking forward to going to the party with Jack. But instead he would go to eat dinner with the rich people. Cora threw a price of bread on the ground in frustration. No one saw her do it.
"Well actually, the supper should be over by 8, which is when the party starts, so I'll be there!" Jack said, smiling at Cora.
Cora looked up and smiled back at him. Jack was going to be at the party! Cora perked up again.
"Uncle Jack,Will there be music?" Cora asked Jack.
Her dad had taught her a jig when she was 4, and Cora was eager to show Jack what she knew.
"It's an Irish party." Jack laughed. "Of course there will be music!" At that, Cora laughed too.
"Cora, you will have to take a nap this afternoon if you will be going to the party." Mama said.
"Okay." Cora replied. She knew she'd be out late.
After breakfast, Jack, Cora, Tommy and Fabrizio all went to the General room, while Mama and Daddy went to talk to some people about where to find a tenement in New York once they got there.
Cora sat next to Jack, as they drew some people sitting nearby.
"Good, very good." Tommy said after Cora and Jack were done with the picture. Cora looked up, and smiled at Jack, and Jack smiled back at her.
Suddenly, Daddy and Mama appeared.
"Cora, we have to go now." Daddy said, Mama slightly waving at Jack.
Cora got up.
"Say goodbye to Uncle Jack." Daddy said.
"Bye uncle Jack." Cora said.
"Bye Cora." Jack said.
She waved to him and he waved back.
Cora smiled inside. She couldn't wait to go to the party!
"You have to take your nap now, Cora, if you want to go to the party later. It's going to be past your bedtime." Mama said.
   "Okay." Cora said.
When they reached their room, Cora pulled her nightgown on, reached for her doll, and snuggled under the covers, dreaming of the party in just a few hours!
