Cora Cartmell and TITANIC

Chapter 1- Boarding

Beeb beeb" went the cars from behind. 8 year old Cora Cartmell smoothed the hair of her doll and looked up at the big ship over head. "It's a big boat isn't it?" Her dad said. Cora thought for a moment. "Daddy, it's a ship!" She said. "Your right" her dad said. Cora continued to brush her dolls tangled hair with her fingers. Her doll had brown hair, and brown eyes just like her.
Another car honked from behind. Cora looked up. A beautiful lady with a purple hat and a big bow on the front stepped out of the car. She had a long white dress, with a black cloth belt and little buttons all over it. She had white gloves on, and red hair, and had the smoothest skin that Cora had ever seen. Cora wished she could look like the first class ladys'. Her Mama had explained to her that the 3rd class people like her, and 1st class people like the lady that just got out of the car, had to remain separate on the Titanic. Mama and her daddy had explained it several times but Cora didn't understand why. She also didn't understand why she had to wait to get inspected by the angry men upfront. Cora sighed.
"Mama,who's that?" Cora asked her mom
"A first class lady." Her mother responded.
"How come she doesn't have to go through an inspection?" Cora asked
"Because people are afraid that we might carry diseases." Mama said.
Cora was puzzled. She didn't have a disease.

"Say ahhh!" The man who was doing inspections said to Cora. Cora opened her mouth wide. The man stuck a wooden stick on her tongue. Then he took another wood stick and dug through her hair,and looked in her ears. Then she stood behind a rope and waited for the man to do the same for her parents.
"You're all clear." The man said.
Cora's mama grabbed the luggage and her dad grabbed her hand. They pushed through a crowd of dirty people and someone stepped on Cora's shoe. A big streak of dirt appeared on it. But Cora didn't care. She was too excited to see what the inside of the ship would look like.
