The next day after breakfast, Cora went up on deck to play. She sat on the ground, pretending her dolly was in New York, richer then everyone in the whole world. Cora smiled inside. Maybe she would be richer than everyone once she arrived in New York.
Suddenly, a toy top rolled over and hit Cora in the leg. She stood up with her dolly, and handed it to the little girl who smiled at her.
"Hi! Sorry about that." She said. "I'm Molly, what is your name?"
Cora blushed, and felt shy.
"I'm Cora." Cora said. "I'm 8, how about you."
"I'm eleven, and these are my siblings, Penny, and Joseph. Penny is four and Joseph is 3." Molly said. Then, she stepped closer to Cora, and whispered in her ear;
"They're only babies." She said pointing to Penny and Joseph.
Cora giggled. Molly looked down and saw Cora's doll.
"She's beautiful." Molly said.
Cora smiled and gave her dolly to Molly.
"You can hold her if you'd like." Cora said, smiling. Molly smiled back at her, and looked at the doll. After a while she gave her back to Cora with shining eyes.
"I have a rag doll." Molly said. "She's not as beautiful as yours"
Cora laughed, and so did Molly.
"Wanna play with the top? My brother and sister are going back to our room for a nap. So we can be alone!" Molly said.
"Okay." Cora said.
As they were walking, Cora asked Molly,
"Who are you traveling with?"
"Just my Mother, Brother and sister." She said.
"What happened to your father?" Cora asked.
"He passed away, several years ago." Molly said quietly. Cora felt sad for Molly. She knew she needed to cheer her up.
"Wanna sneak up on the first class deck?" Cora whispered to Molly.
Molly giggled. "Yea!" She said.
"Maybe we'll see my friend Rose." Cora said.
"You have a friend in first class!" Molly exclaimed.
Cora giggled. "Yes." She said. "Come on, no ones there."
Cora and Molly, giggling, hopped onto the Promenade deck.
"Don't run, we have to look like we are in first class." Cora said, and Molly giggled.
They didn't look like they were in first class, Cora's hair was messy, and Molly's dress was patched, and made of a chicken feed sack. But it didn't matter to the girls, as they walked, holding hands along the deck, giggling the whole time.
Suddenly, a little up ahead, Cora saw Rose with her Mother and a friend.
"Come on." She said to Molly. Cora didn't care about looking properly anymore, she began to run. When she was right behind Rose, she tapped her on the shoulder.
Rose turned around and looked shocked.
"Cora! What are you doing here?" She said smiling.
Rose's mother stopped.
"Rose, who are these children?" She said. "I've never seen them. They need to get cleaned up."
Rose rolled her eyes and looked up at her mother. "They are from Third Class, Mother. They are very nice and polite." Rose said smiling at Cora.
Rose's mother looked disgusted, just like Samantha's mother did yesterday.
"They shouldn't be here. Where are your parents?" She called.
"I'll take them back, Mother." Rose said.
Her mother didn't say anything, except looking Cora and Molly up and down with small, glaring eyes.
Rose gripped Cora's hand and hurried them away.
As soon as they were far enough where her mother wouldn't hear, they all started laughing.
"Thank you for visiting." Rose said laughing.
Cora and Molly laughed too.
"What's life like in first class?" Molly asked Rose.
Rose laughed and said, "boring."
Cora and Molly laughed too.
"It seems as if you were born into the wrong class." Molly said laughing, and Rose nodded her head and laughed too.
"I can't wait for the party." Molly said.
"What party?" Cora asked.
"After supper today." Molly said. "My mother told me about it."
"Oh, good!" Cora said. "Rose will you be there?" She asked Rose.
"If I can sneak away from my mother." Rose said.
Cora smiled."Bye, Rose." Cora and Molly both said when they had made it to the Third Class deck entrance.
Rose smiled and waved at them as she walked away."Molly, dinner !" Someone called from the bottom of the steep stairs.
"I have to go now, see you at the party!" Molly said.
"Bye!" Cora said, waving.
She looked at her doll and smiled. Cora had another new friend!
