Brantley's POV
I was moments away from having my way with MacKenzie when I heard my mother screaming,
"BRANTLEY KEITH!!!!!" She came walking in. MacKenzie was straightening herself out as Mama continued. "You've been home for a week now and you haven't even come to say hello!" I walked over and embraced Mama in a big hug."Good morning Mama, I'm sorry I haven't stopped by yet. We've just been getting settled." I spoke.
"Oh I can see that, honey. And who's this little peach over here?" Mama said walking into the kitchen. Kenzie jumped off the counter.
"MacKenzie James." She smiled. Shaking Mama's hand. "It's so nice to meet you Mrs. Gilbert."
"Oh sweetie, bless your heart. You are just the sweetest thing, aren't you? You can call me Miss Becky." Mama said still holding Kenzie's hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Becky." Kenzie smiled.
"So you're the girl who's been keeping my boy on his toes, huh?" Mama said. Kenzie blushed.
"I guess so." She smiled.
"What brings you by so early Ma?" I asked.
"Well considering it's been a week and you hadn't come by, I had to see for myself what was keeping you in this house." Mama said. I knew she meant to say, she had come here to see if I was drinking again. I was glad I got to prove her wrong.
"Are you hungry Miss Becky? I can make some breakfast for us? Would you like some coffee?" MacKenzie asked mama, while she washed her hands.
"Some coffee would be nice dear." Mama said.
"I'll take some of whatever you're going to make Kenz." I smiled. She smiled and nodded her head while pouring the cup of coffee. Handing it to Mama who was sitting at the other end of the island. Mama sat there and grilled MacKenzie while she made us all breakfast. It impressed me how she handled Mama. I knew she wasn't the easiest to please nor the easiest to convince. After everything with Amber, Mama was being extra protective of her "baby" boy.
What seemed to be like 50,000 questions later, MacKenzie was still wearing the polite respectful smile that took over her face when she first introduced herself to Mama.
"Well, I'm gonna excuse myself. And go shower. Babe, I'm gonna leave you on kitchen duty." Kenzie said as she put her plate in the sink.
"Sounds good to me babe." I smiled as she leaned down and left me with a quick kiss and a thank you.
"I'll be back shortly. It was nice to meet you Miss Becky." MacKenzie smiled at Mama.
"It was nice to meet you too, dear." Mama and I watched Kenzie walk down the hall to the bedroom. "I really like her son." Mama smiled. Which made me smile.
"I told you back when that story got leaked about us, that you would. Did I not?" I asked laughing a little. "You picked a good day to come. She's starting to be more like her old self."
"Are you guys still dealing with her ex fiance?" Mama asked. I just shook my head.
"Not since that day in Nashville." I said getting up starting to clean up the kitchen while I talked with Mama.
"Well that's good news then, isn't it honey? Maybe you guys can breath a little easier now that you're here away from it all." Mama smiled sipping her coffee.
"Yeah I think so. And I'm hoping so. So far it's been good. Her and Kolby get along really well. They drive me crazy when they are together." I laughed. Mama chuckled also.
