Esther stared at the mirror, a scar peeking out of her hairline. She placed her hand on her head, feeling the scar. Tears brimming her eyes, she brought her hand to her chest. The scar holding a memory, she can't remember. It seems she can't remember anything anymore. Afraid, she'll forget her sister and father.
A knock was heard, "Esther, are you almost done in there. I need to go to school soon,"
"Y-yes! I'll be right out," Esther said, quickly braiding her hair
She walked out of the restroom and to the closet, taking out a ribbon and tied it around her head to cover her scar. She walked out of the room and to the stairs, she put her shoes on and walked down the steps.
"Dad, I'm here to help," Esther announced, walking to the kitchen
"Good, I need you to put these pastrys in the countertop display," Nathaniel order
"On it," Esther grabbed the tray filled with cinnamon buns and walked to the display, placing the tray inside being careful.
"Esther, where's father?" Elliana asked, tying her ribbon
"In the kitchen," Esther said, jealous of her sisters uniform
Elliana walked behind the counter and into the kitchen. Esther went into the kitchen as well to get the remaining trays.
"Esther, birdy. I'm going to take your sister to school. Can you take care of the shop?" Nathaniel asked, taking her apron off
"Of course. I take the remaining bread and croissant out of the oven in 7 minutes and opened the shop exactly at 7," Esther said
"Correct. I'll be back. Remember where the gun is if something dangerous happens," Nathaniel stated, pointing at the cookie jar
"I do. You should probably get going. Elliana can't be late,"
"Okay. Be careful, Esther," Nathaniel said, kissing her forehead and walking out of the bakery with Elliana
She looked after them, her heart aching. She wished she could go with them, but school isn't a option for her. 'Stop thinking negative thoughts. I need to take care of the shop.' Esther walked back into the kitchen, grabbing more trays and placing it in the display then eventually getting the remaining pasties from the oven.
-------------"Have a nice day," Esther said, handing the customer their bag
"You too, but where's your father?"
"He's with my sister at school,"
The customer nodded and left. Esther took the order of the next customer. Her head pounding, but she continue to serve the customers until she started to see black dots.
"Miss, are you fine?" The customer asked
"Y-yes. You wanted a apple cinnamon bun and a glazed donut, right?" Esther said, punching in the numbers
"Yes,"
Esther went to the display, putting on a plastic glove and paper bag, she went to go grab the donut, but shut her eyes closed when a sharp pain went through her head.
"Huh? Where am I?" Esther said, looking around the shop
"Esther, are you alright?" The customer asked
Esther looked at the woman, "Excuse me, do I know you?"
"I'm a regular here. Are you sure you're fine?" She asked
"Y-yeah," Esther looked around and saw donuts and other pastrys
She then looked at the register, "You want a glazed donut and apple cinnamon bun, right?"
"Yes..," The customer was alarmed that Esther was acting like this
Esther placed the glazed donut in the bag and grabbed another one and placed the bun in it. She handed it over to the woman, "Have a nice day,"
"You too, Esther," Esther gave her a smile and heard a ding
A customer was at the cashier. Esther started to breath heavily, she didn't know what to do. She doesn't know what's happening.
"Esther, I'm back. There was traffic," A man came in, running his head through his hair
Esther backed away from the cashier and pushed the door behind her. She didn't know what was happening to her. She sat on the stool which was at the corner. Her head in her hands, trying to remember. She sat there, scared. Her head throbbing, tears welling in her eyes. A pair of black shoes appeared in her view.
"Esther, birdy. Are you okay?" Nathaniel said, squatting down in front of her
"Who are you?" Esther asked, looking at him
"Esther? Are you fine? Did something happen? Are you mad at me?" Nathaniel asked, his fear rising
"I don't know. I'm sorry, but my head hurts," Esther laid her hand on the side of her head
"When did it start hurting?' Nathaniel asked, worried
"I-I don't remember," Esther said, trying to remember
"Okay," Nathaniel said, "Do you know who I am?"
"No," Esther mumble, shaking her head
Nathaniel sat there, scared. How could his daughter not remember him? Did he do something to make her mad at him?
"O-okay, well... uh... how about you go to your room, so you can rest," Nathaniel said, patting her shoulder
"Wheres my room?" Esther asked
"S-sorry. It's the 2nd room on the left," Nathaniel said, Esther nodded
Nathaniel stood, holding his hand out to her. She looked at his hand then up at him. She stood and walked out of the kitchen. Nathaniel's heart clenching. He followed after her, watching as she walked up the stairs and disappearing.
"Excuse me?" Nathaniel looked at the woman
"Oh, sorry. What would you like?"
------------
Esther entered the room, her eyes taking in the room. There were two beds on each side with different decorations. She walked around, trying to figure which one was 'hers'. She sat down on the yellow duvet. 'Should I sleep or wait for that man?'
"I'll just sleep since this headache is killing me," Esther laid down on the bed before taking off her shoes
"Please let me remember," Esther whispered, closing her eyes
------------
Nathaniel walked up the stairs and stood in front of the girls room. He couldn't understand what was happening to Esther, but he hoped it wasn't anything serious. He let out a breath and walked into the room. His eyes landed on Esther, who was fast asleep. He walked over to her, sitting on the corner of the bed.
"Esther, what is happening?" Nathaniel sighed, rising the blanket higher on Esther
