Trixie's POV

*two months later*

"Trixie?"

"Yes mom?"

"How about this one?"

"I don't like green."

"It is such a pretty color though."

"Yeah, for elfs." Prom was in another two months and I finally told my mom I was going. Today was her only day off so she wanted to come with me to help me pick out a dress.

"So, how are you and that guy? What's his name? Lactose? Dairy? Almond Milk?"

"Milk mom, it's Milk. We have been dating for two years now."

"Hmm. How are you two?" My mom grabbed a white dress from the wall and smiled.

"We're okay and no. It's prom, not a wedding."

"Fine. So, you said you're okay."

"Yeah."

"You don't sound too sure. When can I meet him?"

"Huh?"

"Like you said you've been dating for two years. You stay at his house sometimes. I have never met him. It would make me feel a bit more comfortable, knowing who my daughter is actually with."

"Mom, you don't have the time."

"I can make time."

"Mom, it's fine."

"Trixie, may I ask you a question sweetie?"

"Sure."

"How does he treat you?"

"I mean, alright I guess. We don't really talk much." I made sure not to say too much. I couldn't tell my mom that the only time we felt like a couple was during sex. I didn't tell anyone really.

"Why is that?"

"He is always busy."

"Then why not just be friends dear?"

"I don't know."

"Does he make you happy?"

"Mom, we're here for dresses." My mom grabbed my hand softly as I reached for a dress. She looked at me and sighed.

"Trixie, I love you okay? I don't want you making the same mistakes that I made. You haven't had children with this boy, you don't have to stay with him. You're young and beautiful. Your only responsibility is to yourself, not anyone else."

"I know mom."

"Good, now time for dresses. What color do you want?"

"Pink."

"Of course."

"Mom.."

"Hmm?"

"Can I ask you something?"

"Yes."

"How do you know if you are meant to be with someone?"

"Oh, well I think it comes from your emotions. How you feel when you're with them. It's not like someone is gonna hold up a sign that says 'Oh I'm right here, your soulmate.' You have to pay attention to your emotions dear."

"And if that doesn't work? Like what if you can't really figure it out?" My mom chuckled as she held another dress.

"I asked my mother the same thing. She told me to make a list."
