Third POV
M was lying on the infirmary bed. a gauze glued on his forehead. Arthit leaned against the wall while Kong was sitting beside his best friend. Bright stood behind me like bodyguard.
The door swung open, Kao and Pete flew in."How is he?" Kao asked.
"He was immobilized by a Sabertooth player," Kong said, his tone curled into anger. "He'll recover soon."
"Any luck with Ash?" Arthit asked them, dropping his arms to the side.
Pete shook his head.
"We'll check the north side tomorrow," Kong informed them. "Third and Bright would go south."
"I'll keep in touch with Ash." Kao said. "I'll text P'Pete if there's something new."
"Cool." Arthit shrugged and left to help Jay and Namtan to buy ingredients for a healing potion at Graiville's Black Market.
"Damn, I love it when Arthit is being a badass mentor," said Bright. Everyone knew that, because he was Arthit Rodgers. The mentor that everyone's talking about. The mentor that had the potential to be the next Gear Heart Master.
Kong POV
"I wish I could help more," I said to Kao, we were sitting in at the shore. seagulls flying afar and the sun was still up. He clenched his hand on the sand. "The only thing is he'll get better. I promise."
"You don't know that." The sound of his voice implicated something else.
He received a slight frown from me. "Sure he will. He's M."
"How do I even get him back?" Kao asked, apparently to himself. "Can I be honest with you?"
"Sure."
"I wanna do a spell."
"Do you want me to teach you fire magic or teleportation magic?" I smiled, waving my hand in the air.
"No, I want you to be in this. I wanna bring my family back." He said firmly.
My jaw slacked open. An old wound embraced me. But I have to stay intact. As someone who was resurrected as a hellgod slayer. The effects weren't friendly enough and I didn't want to recommend it. Gee... "Of course, you wanna bring them back, and I wish we can have that power but...it's impossible."
"Why? We're wizards, we can do necromancy, right? We can harness the elements and other stuff."
Yes, P'Trae messed up with the natural order of things. Yet this was dangerous. "But we cannot mess with life and death."
"Ash killed them, Kong." His voice defiant and husky.
"I know it's awful but this isn't the way. The spell always backfires." I swallowed the growing lump in my throat because I've experienced them first hand. "The point is...it's bad. We can't alter the fabric of life for selfish reasons. Wizards took an oath on that a long time ago. Those who used forbidden spells were expelled or worse...executed."
"So it's possible then? If our kind didn't take the oath then they didn't know they can do it."
Oh, Kao. You're looking at him right now. The one and only true result of necromancy.
"But I can't. It's too dangerous."
"You said you are my friend," Kao said in an angry voice and he stormed off.
Third POV
Not later than five in the afternoon, I was at the infirmary, helping Namtan to make magic potions for M, so he would heal quickly. I examined every item that was laid on the table.
"You don't have to do that, Third. Just relax." Arthit said, organizing the items orderly.
"Yes, sit down." Bright massaged my shoulder. "We will have some amusing dinner later."
"Are you asking me out?" I said, laughing.
"Why wouldn't I?"
"Is this all of it?" Arthit asked Namtan. She nodded. "Okay, see you around."
"Bye, thanks for your help, Ai-oon." Namtan waved and Arthit went outside to go back in his room.
"Anyway, I want to be useful," I said, facing Bright. "It keeps my mind off with some things."
"Then you should be useful then. You could lend me a hand." Namtan passed a tray of mixed ingredients.
"But you have hands!" Bright said. "A magical hand! A hand that isn't a hand of a killer."
"Bright." Namtan said.
"But yeah, it's wonderful that baby Third here finds your job so diverting." Bright's lips drawn into a tight smile. "Proceed. I'll buy some snacks for you."
Arthit POV
"Do you remember what I ate for breakfast? I think I wanna say sunny, side-up egg but I don't remember." I said, my head on Kong's lap, we were in the bed. He was playing a game on his phone while I paused reading on some interesting stories of creepypasta. I've told him earlier that I could shadow travel and he thought it was awesome that we could go anywhere we want.
"What are you reading?" Kong asked.
"Reading creepypasta."
"That's new."
I nodded. "Yeah. I just realize that mortals create some stuff that they realize they're even real. Like real, real. Monsters. If I would write a journal, I would write every adventure with you...and monsters."
"That's sweet." Kong ruffled my hair. Then he furrowed his eyebrows.
"What's wrong?"
"It's about Kao."
"What about him?"
Kong took a deep breath as if he had been holding this for years. "he wants to bring his family back. He wouldn't find the answer to his question because I gave up the spellbook to my dad. Oh, God. What if he found something else."
"He wouldn't. I think he wouldn't find anything about resurrection spell." I assured him.
"There are many types, P'Arthit." He said and I sat up on the bed. "We can't waste time. We need to know what he's up to."
"We have to call Pete." I said. "Now"
Third POV
Bright got to the store a while ago. I've been thinking a lot about how to clear things with Bright. He was unstoppable on courting me. M was already awake and Namtan let him drink with those healing potions.
And speaking of Bright...he burst into the room carrying one plastic. I was at the balcony, enjoying the smell of sea air. "Here. You'll be refreshed." He handed me a bottle of water. When everything was quiet. I stared at him, drinking diet coke.
"Bright."
He immediately swung his head to me. "Yes?"
"What you feel about me..." I said slowly. "Is it really true?"
"Of course, you don't have to worry anything," Bright said cheerfully.
I looked up, guilty. "I have to tell you something..." But before I could spill anything from my mouth. M, Namtan, Bone, and Pete came in.
"What now?" Bright complained.
"It's Kao."
