Arthit POV
"The third match this year's university games, the black whirlwind May Illumino from Gear Hearts against the feracious shifter Lily Lighttower from Sabertooth!" Theova said through the speaker. May and Lily were standing across each other. We already went to the first two preliminary fights. The first one we loosed with the Scarlet Blades, and the second one we just earned five points against the Green Alchemist.
"Oh, so they've finally picked the weakest one," said Prem.
"Don't underestimate her." I replied, attempting to focus on the battle.
Kong and the rest were seated in front of the rail, watching the match.
"I hear that Gear Hearts and Sabertooths have been rivals for so many years!" Theova said. "Competitors, step forward! Since this is one on one we cleared your teammates off the field. You have a 30-minute time limit."
Lily tilted her head to the side and grinned like a psychopath. "I've heard so much about you, whirlwind."
May didn't say anthing. She put a hand on her hips.
"If you incapacitate your opponent before 30 minutes, you win!" said Theova. "Now begin!"
The bell rang and Lily advanced at May. "Here I come!" She said, as her hand pulsed and shot with hot volcanic darts. "Fire magic?" gasped Kong.
May charged faster than Lily anticipated. She summoned a black wind to kill the fire and earth walls to shield herself from being burned. "Woah, two elements at once?" Tew said incredulously.
"That's amazing! She got way stronger and she could control her magic properly!" Oak leaned forward.
May struck Lily with two whirlwinds. She laughed maniacally as she spread her arms, dodging the winds with a huge fireball.
Switching to the offense, Lily shapeshifted into a huge Sabertooth, its white fur was white as a paper under the sun. She sneered at May before leaping over. May pulled away from her with an effort of skill.
Something flashed in her hand. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. May landed on the ground and caught Irene's Staff.
"Oh my...this is bringing me back memories." Tew shuddered as he said it to Kong.
"Where did she get that?" Oak commented. "She had a freaking secret weapon all along?"
May swept toward Lily, whipping the staff, hoping to catch her unprotected neck. Bur Lily was faster, she deflected, though May was summoning. Lily blocked her magic by roaring.
Lily stalked back and forth. Then she ran for May. May raised the staff and a sandstorm of black wind whooshes to the audience, made us covered our eyes.
"This is not good to my hair!" Prem complained.
"Damn!!" Knot cried.
The wind completely dispersed and we saw May was grinning. Lily was back on his human form. Her face twisted into ugly anger. "Curse you!!!" A volcanic tendril burst under May's feet. Lily started swinging her around the area, the staff slipped from her hand.
May's shoes were burning, and she was half barefooted. She stood and the staff thumped back to her palm.
Lily's eyes gloomed and she started to giggle. One that chilled my bones. May frowned just as she looked over to the Gear Heart tent who were cheering on her. She was anticipating for that weird fire magic.
She tensed up at the direction of the players. Lily and May have a silent contact in over a minute, just the two of them. Something's weird.
Another tendril. This time it was just Lily's arm that turned into a sabertooth's paw, knocking May on the ground.
"Is she running out of magic?" Prem said impatiently. "She had an Enchanter object in her possession!"
"Why isn't she fighting back?" Bright asked me. Now, two more tendrils exploded on the ground and began lashing at her skin. We heard the crack as May screamed in terror.
"FEEL THE BURN!!!" Lily shouted. "Take that! And that! And that! You're pathetic! A loser! A shameful magic user!"
May's skin was beginning to have burns when she was just sitting in front of Lily, clutching her staff. Then I already noticed that Kong was running next to M. Everyone in the tent was staring at him. He pushed M from the bench and pulled a volcanic tendril, turning it into ash.
Lily spun wildly.
"I knew it! She's scaring May!" Kong shouted to the arena. M blinked at his best friend while he was on the floor.
"Way to go, Kongpob!" Bright shouted at him but he didn't turn. A small proud smile crept on my face. I knew something was wrong but Kong had sharper senses and he found what was bothering May.
May's foot met Lily's chest and she went flying backward while being distracted by Kong. Lily initially lurched back, grabbing May's collar and hurled her down. After two minutes of fighting, May kept herself upright, her right leg could barely support her.
She shot the staff and the sky went dark. She became translucent and three stars tore through the sky. Lily lunged at her but went past May. She transformed into a complete sabertooth again.
Did May have a god mode? I thought which I find it funny though.
May pointed the staff to Lily and the stars shot down. Then the world went white.
For a heartbeat, the arena came to its normal state and the sky was blue again. Lily sprawled upon the ground. May was catching her breath. Then she remained standing tall as she fiercely looks up at the crowd.
"And she's down!" Theova said in the speaker. "The winner of 10 points is May Illumino from Gear Hearts!"
The crowd began clapping and cheering. May smiled at the tent...The Enchantress collapsed, and M rushed to her side.
She'd won...
