He sits down next to me on the couch, "who the hell was that?!" He asks obviously really confused and angry.

"He used to be my friend. His name's Kyle. We used to smoke and do crazy shit together before I moved out here. Then a few hours ago he told me he was here and then he just showed up!" I motion my hands towards the door.

He nods in understandment. "Well, I meant what I said, if he comes back I'm jacking his ass up. And I'm not afraid to call Jack G and Taylor," he says.

I try not to smile as I slowly get up and run up the stairs. I stop at the top and look down at Cam from the top.

"Oh... and thanks. For telling him off," I say, then move to my room and get on my phone. One new message from Kyle. What the actual fuck is his problem? I sigh and open one of his messages for the last time.

Kyle: It disappoints me by how much you've changed, Sam. You used to be like me, crazy and daring. Now you're just a stupid fucking California girl. See you around.

I laugh at his stupidity. I'm glad I'm not going to be associated with him anymore.

As I wake up, I realize it's the last Monday of the school year. I want to smile but I don't. I dress in the awful uniform for the last time and head downstairs.

Cam is ready, and we're off to school. Nothing is said about last night. I have a cigarette before we go in. Fuck school.

I dread first period, there I find Jack slouched in his chair, texting. I sit down silently and pull out my phone.

To Jack: I would get off before the teacher comes in.

I put mine away, and watch him from the corner of my eye. He puts his phone away just as the bell rings.

The teacher walks in, "Miss Sam, can I see you please?" He says walking to his desk.

I sigh and walk to him, "yeah?" I ask annoyed and lean into his desk.

He sorts through papers, "your grade in my class needs to improve if you want to pass the tenth grade," then he hands me a progress report.

My eyes almost pop, "what?" I ask. "I've been here, what? Two weeks?" I finish in disbelief. I can't be that bad at science.

He grunts, "well you've managed to bring it down in that time period, now go sit down," he says.

I obey and sit with a thud and put my head through my hands. Jack laughs, "it's okay. I'm failing, too."
