The sun beating down on my face was a wonderful feeling after being cooped up in bed surrounded by my own sickness. I had no clue where this virus came from but between the stress & anxiety from school, my parent's pending divorce and the still fresh situation at Sidney's party, I think my body decided it was time for a mild shut down. It sucked that this was the reaction I had to suffer through but even if the stress was too much to handle, I still wouldn't seek out anyone to talk to. There was only so much I could confide in my mom about, Rue was venturing off down a path I wasn't fond of, and I got along with none of my teammates so who could I really count on? I knew a breakthrough needed to happen soon and I am hopeful that some sort of support will help me through.

I could got up the earliest in the household and took a nice, hot shower before getting dressed in a colorful sports bra and black yoga leggings. Since I was feeling okay but knew that I couldn't go to school, I decided to do a small workout and some drills in the backyard before my mom and Rue woke up.

"For someone who's supposedly ill with some deadly virus, you sure look good to me." I heard Rue say from the back sliding door. I glanced her way and admired her cozy look in my pajamas and her hair in a high bun.

"Ha ha, very funny. I just couldn't stand to be in that bed any longer." I confessed.

"I feel you, just don't be surprised if I catch it next."

I lightly shrugged my shoulders, "I told you you didn't have to come over.."

She scoffed, "Yeah, but I knew you weren't happy being all alone."

I shied away from showing a smile, but couldn't deny her statement; it was something we've always done in our year of knowing each other to take care of one another when we fell ill. Next, I decided to put away my workout equipment then head inside to get some breakfast; when we both came through the door, my mom was walking in the kitchen.

"Hey ladies!" She greeted in a cheerful tone. We said our hello's and I immediately hugged her from behind and stuck to her like glue as she maneuvered side to side at the kitchen counter; it was no better feeling to me than being up under her. "You must be feeling better.." she commented at my behavior.

"I am, all thanks to your lovely medical advice."

"Perks of a doctor's child, my love." She said softly before releasing my arms from around her. She reached into the cabinet to grab her Hydro Flask coffee tumbler then set it up at our fancy Keruig machine to brew her Colombian dark roast k-cup.

"Are you fixing you and Rue some breakfast?" She asked.

"Actually, can you? Please mom, you know you make the best breakfast!" I pleaded.

"So true.." Rue mumbled while taking a brief break from her phone.

My mom titled her head to the side and ran her hands over her scrubs, "Do you not see what I have on? Plus, you're too old to not know how to fend for yourself, Aaliyah."
