🕷IT had been a long time since Nathan had watched cartoons on TV, thinking he had grown out of it but now here he was again-but it was only because Cindy hid the remote from him to keep him from going to the news channel.
Taking a sip from the tea that she had made from him, he immediately spit it out, not loving the taste. He made a face as she walked in front of him. "What the hell is that? Are you trying to poison me?"
"It's peppermint tea, it's supposed to relieve your frustration. Drink it all until the last drop." She demanded.
"Mom, is that you?"
Cindy playfully hit his arm with the envelope in her hand before she suddenly realized she was supposed to ask him about it. "Oh, right. I found this on the front door as I decided to get some fresh air. But it seems that it's meant to go to Tony because there is no," She looked down, re-reading the name, "Mateo Jones here. Do you know a Mateo Jones?"
Nathan nearly dropped the cup as he quickly put it down before reaching for the envelope. "No fucking way..."
Cindy plopped down next to him, looking over his shoulder. "Who's Mateo Jones?"
"When my parents knew they were expecting a boy-they came up with a whole lot of names. Mateo was one of them before they stuck with Nathan. Jones is my Mom's maiden name." He quickly opened the envelope, seeing that she had written him a letter. "I can't believe they never forgot about it."
My Nathan,
It hasn't even been a full fourty-eight hours yet but we're all missing you. Being in the house isn't the same without you, and I can't believe I'm saying this but, we miss your loudness and you fighting with Rosemary. People have begun to come onto our property and try to destroy the place but we're fine (thank you to whoever invented sprinklers). Your father is going to try his best so that no one comes near us-but don't worry, we're perfectly safe now. We really hope you're alright and taking care of yourself. You're alone in a cabin in the middle of nowhere and it's just making us all uneasy knowing you're out there all alone. Your father talked to Tony in sending someone to keep you company so you won't lose your mind. But, who knows? Maybe you won't be out there for a long time as we thought. We're all going out tomorrow to tear down the wanted posters and try to get some people on our side again. We'll keep on fighting for you. We promise you. Everyone will start loving you again. You'll get to come back home and be with us, okay? Everything will be back to normal. Until then, I'm begging you to not hurt yourself. Please eat, drink plenty of water and read some books. Write us back, please. Let us know that you're still here. We're your family and we're always going to be here for you no matter what. We love you so much. All our love,
M, D, R, S, MJHe sighed, hanging his head low as he ran his fingers through his hair. "Francesca sent people to disturb my family. You see what it has come to? Now she won't leave my family alone. Fuck!" He screamed, kicking the table in front of him as he layed back on the couch.
Cindy looked down at the damage he had caused before she grabbed the note from his hands. She skimmed it quickly before placing it down. "Your Mom said it herself that they're okay. You don't have to worry-"
"Exactly. She doesn't want me to worry but how can't I when I know what Francesca is capable of doing to them!" He shut his eyes, rubbing them as he tried to shake the thought of anything happening to them.
"Nathan? Look at me," She said softly. She grabbed his wrists, lowering them so that he could look at her when she noticed that he had begun to cry. "I know you're scared, I know you're anxious about your family. But you know what? They're safe and you know that. Tony is right there beside them and you know that he loves you and your family and wouldn't let anything happen to him. Hell, your parents may have retired from the superhero life but I know that they can still kick ass, along with Rosemary and Sienna. I hate seeing you like this but, I'm just trying to explain to you that you have absolutely nothing to worry about. You're not alone, I'm here."
"I-I know, I just...they have nothing to do with this! Why does she have to put them through this? This is between her and I-"
"This is exactly what she wants. She knows your weakness, you can't let her win, Nathan. You can't. If you come out of hiding, they could find you, Nathan. They could kill you. Do you want your family to live with that? They need you. I nee-everyone needs you. Do you understand me?"
Nathan let the tears run down his face before Cindy finally pulled him to her. She whispered comforting words to him as he ruined her shirt. Running her long nails into his hair, they continued to hold each other close.
Ever since he had been born, the most important thing to him was his family. It was something that Peter had taught him and has stuck with him for over seventeen years. The idea of something terrible happening to his family absolutely killed him.
GABBY'S NOTE !
even though i just started this book, i think i'm going to have to take a small break from writing this. i've been feeling uninspired of writing this book due to a lot of ghost readers. i don't recieve as much support and or love as in my previous books and that just makes me upset. this is my own fault for ever thinking of making a fourth book tbh. all my excitement for this book really went downhill when i don't receive it in return. i really am sorry.
